Hi

DD1 is allergic to tree nuts. DD2 has no allergies. DD3 is 5 months old and I am wanting to know when I should get her tested - with the skin prick test.

At what age has anyone got this test done? I guess I would rather find out if she has any allergies via this test rather than having a reaction once she is on solids.

Is there an age where the test is more accurate (eg 12 months or whatever) or can it be done anytime?

Please tell me what you know or have been told as its one of those things where if you ask 6 different doctors you will get 6 different answers.

My DS1 has severe & multiple food allergies. DS2 had skin prick testing done at 4 months old to see if he was travelling down the same path (was showing some signs such as eczema, bad reflux etc)

HTH & good luck with the results!

Good evening. I hope you don't mind me jumping in here to ask another question on the same topic. Does it cost anything to get this test done? Where do you have to go to get it done?

My DF is extremely allergic to shell fish and so is his mum. I figure if she passed it on to him then there is a chance my daughter will be to. DF has other allergies as well that aren't life threatening. Have always wondered if I should test DD to see if she shows the signs as well. Sorry again for jumping in on this.

2 of my 3 had theirs done last month at 12 months, A is booked in next month at 14 months.

BM - Trio had their done as a part of a study at a major public hospital, so didnt cost us anything. If you went public i wouldnt thick it would cost anything.

Oh ok so you go to the hospital then. Not a GP or a specialist. I imagine you would need a referral though? Sorry I am not that knowledgeable on these types of things.

You'd need a referral to see a immunologist, the study their in is a carry on from one i was in while preg. reason why they didnt need a referral.

BM you can get a referral from a paed or a gp. Our boys see an Allergist/Immunologist in the private system. There are some in the public system too, but can take a very long time to get in to see them (hence we went private even with no health cover).

We just had DD (9 months) skin tested for all sorts of things due to her having suspected egg allergy. Would have done it at 8 months but had to wait a month to get an appointment. We got a referral from our GP to a private allergy specialist. I guess you would have to wait ages to go public.

Unfortunately you can't claim it on private health cover because its not hospital treatment. But you do get some back from medicare. HTH.
