Hi girls,
I'm looking for a good hospital (obviously don't want a bad one !!). I'm in Rowville but am happy to travel up to half an hour.
I am currently considering Casey Hospital, Monash Medical Centre & The Angliss.
Ideas or recommendation or experiences anyone ??

I have not used any of these and if u wanted a general option on all hosp i would say the mercy. But thats too far for you i think, so i would suggest Monash. My old friend had a baby there 2 yrs back i think it was, or just a bit less actually and she had nothing but great things to say.

I had my DS at the Angliss in 2003 and he was in special care for 15 days. I can not fault the care that we were given.
I am going back there to have bubsy in about 6 weeks so I can update further then!!
You hear good and bad about every hospital, but in my opinion Angliss were awesome.
Why don't you see if you can do one of their tours through the maternity ward and get a feel for it? That may tell you straight away whether you would be happy there or not.....IYKWIM.

Thats actually a great idea, i back that one up., Good thinking Girl!
Casey is meant to be great but just be aware that if you have any complications they may have to transfer you to Danednong or Monash.
Dandenong Hospital is FANTASTIC, i had my first son there and the facilities are new the birthing suit and maternity wards are really nice and homy. The Midwives were fantastic i could not fault them. The facilities were alot newer and nicer than Monash.
I had my second at Cabrini and am having third there aswell, but if i had to go public again i wouldn't hesitate to go back to Dandenong.
Definately do a tour!!
This way you can find a hospital that suits you to a tea.
Thats how i knew which hospital i wanted to go too!:D

I am currently under the care of midwife's at Casey Hospital. They are very good there but it is only a low-risk birthing unit. So as the last post said, they would refer a high risk to monash or dandenong. I went to their emergency dept last night and they were fantastic.
I work (or used to!) at the Angliss, and must say that they are VERY good. I'm in the Pharmacy department, so this advice is not biased at all... they are extremely knowledgeable and friendly! I got lot's of free pregnancy advice while I was still working!
P.S. The reason I had Mitch at Box Hill was because I could'nt handle the thought of seeing people at work every day knowing they'd seen my bits in all their glory !!!!!:o

I had our last bub at Casey and had a fantastic experience. I couldn't fault them. I was low-risk but that aside, they allow you to birth in the way you choose to-if that makes sense. No fussing with monitors and straps and needles-in fact they didn't even do an internal throughout the whole birth. I was given free rein and was able to take who I chose to with me to the birth.
Also, if you are transferred to Dandenong, as Candyn said, they are also fantastic. My first two were born there and again, the staff I had (bar one middy) were fantastic-the birth centre is only a few years old and is very cushy! I know the name Dandenong summons up some not-so-nice images but remember, you are in the hospital, not the town itself.
I have a number of friends who had babies at The Angliss and they all had good experiences too. In fact a frined of mine is a midwife there in the Special Care Nursery and she just had her own baby there.
Good luck with your decision. :)

Oooohh, I just noticed your bubba's ages! My two biggies were just 5 and just 7 when our baby arrived!
I had both my boys at Monash and i cannot fault them at all
My first DS was unwell when born and spent time in NICU and special care... he did not have to be transferred as they have all the facilities there, i also had a massive haemorrage and my care was brilliant.
My second DS was born with no complications at all but i was so relieved to be there as i felt so secure knowing that if anything went wrong i was in good hands
Good luck with your decision
I had my son at St John Of God in Berwick and they were fantastic!!! I've now moved to the western suburbs, but DP and I would still like to have the rest of our family there cause it was such a lovely experience.

My best friend had her baby at Knox Private - she had a very straight forward birth, no intervention etc but she was quite happy with the care etc.
I had our second child at Mitcham Private and even though I cannot fault my ob, the room or the food, the majority of midwives left alot to be desired (especially the one in charge) - they used alot of agency staff who didn't seem to know 'Arthur from Martha' IYKWIM...I would not go back there because the quality of care from midwives, to me, is of huge importance.
We had DS at The Angliss on Boxing Day last year. We went through the Birth Centre. I'd recommend the Birth Centre for sure.
Faultless, absolutely brilliant care. They actually care about empowering you and your partner to have a wonderful birth experience. It's not about pushing you through the system - you're not a number or a statistic. You're a woman whose experience really means something to them.
