Does anyone else like me want to see a change to the outrageous caesarean section rate (something like 30% in Perth!)?

It is National Caesarean Awareness day on Saturday 9 September, and Birthrites in Perth are holding a Forum at Perth Zoo Conference Centre that day.

I intend to go, but more consumers like myself need to attend so that our voices can be heard in regards to this important topic. There are many Health professionals attending already.

The Minister for Health, Hon Jim A McGinty will be giving the opening address, and other speakers include Dr Jolyon Ford, Obstetrician & Director of Post Graduate Medicine, KEMH, Dr Mo Harris, Acting Midwifery Director, Statewide Obstetric Services Support Unit and Dr Jennifer Fenwick, Associate Professor of Midwifery, Curtin University & KEMH.

There will be workshops where your voice can be heard in regards to your particular circumstances, this is in order to identify strategies to reduce the caesarean birth rate.

Some pretty influential people will be attending, so I highly recommend that more of us consumers attend who have been disgruntled by having had a caesarean we believe was unnecessary, or wish to prevent a caesarean in the first place, and those who want to have a VBAC. Even those who require a caesarean, for whatever reason, it would be good for your voice to be heard also, as the way caesareans are performed need also to be improved immensely to give women with no other choice a better experience of this for them and their baby.

You can download registration forms here:

You can also get a discount on zoo tickets, so make a day of it! I will be sending DH and the boys round the zoo whilst I'm in the Forum and meeting them afterwards for lunch.....

I hope to see you there (I will endeavour to wear my BubHub ribbon so you can find me  - have to go digging under piles of mess to find them though:o )

Sounds good. I should be there too. I don't have a BH ribbon, but look for a heavily pregnant woman with a small blonde girl.

Cool! If i cant find my ribbons under the pile of rubble that my house has become in the past month or so, I will try to put some other identifying thing on my person so you can work out who I am :D

Woah, i didn't know there was anything like this around.
Is this something for mother's that have had them, or are going to have them.
And is it for or against them, sorry if i've missed somewhere that this was stated?
Thanks

Essentially the theme of the forum is to discuss the concern over the rising caesarean rate, and what can be done to reduce it - so anyone who has something to say who has experienced a c/section (negative or positive experience) is needed to come and voice their experiences.

Would love to see you there, Alicia!

ps, also 1st time pregant women or women ttc who are also concerned about the c/section rate, as they would like to avoid having one in the first place, it would be brilliant also for their voices to be heard!
