Hi everyone!
I am looking at booking into the birth centre at woden..has anyone given birth there? Ive got lots of questions!
Was your experiance good?
They say on the website they do a 20week scan with the midwifery program..does that mean that you dont have any scans before that?
Is it available for public patients..I have private healthcare but will not be covered for when I give bith..as i only joined a couple of months ago!(dammit!)
Does it cost any money?
I will give them a call tomorrow! am a bit nervous though..its my first time and I didnt realise these things were arranged so early!
Thanks for your help!
Hi there,
I had my second DS there in november last year.
Was your experiance good?
My experience was absolutely terrific and I would reccomend the birth centre to anyone. I had a lovely waterbirth (which they dont do routinely I just happened to be in the bath when I started pushing and didnt get out!)

I didnt have any other scans with either of my boys. Not sure if this is routine or not, but I was low risk so others werent necessary. If you wish to have the nuchal scan then I would assume your doc will refer you?

Its a public program so health insurance isnt required
Does it cost any money?
Nope!
Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions! It truly was an amazing experience. Also try get in ASAP, it books up very quickly!

Congratulations... Argh, so jealous! I'm due around the same time as you but I left it until about a week after you'd called to book my place and I'm third on the waiting list. Can't believe how quickly it fills up.
Nice to know there's another Canberra chick on BH who's due the same time as me though :)

Hi Bellarella, congrats on getting in to the birthing center! It depends on when you are due and where you live in Canberra as to if you get in. I rang with my second bub at 6 weeks but ended up 70th on the waiting list . Luckily they added a new midwife for my area so I was added to the program at about 26 weeks.
I had a fantastic experience giving birth there. After an induced labor with my first son that then involved all the pain meds I could get my hands on I decided to go through the birth center with my second son and it was a huge difference! I spent a lot of time in the bath (each room has one) and the room was so nice at homely it didn't feel like a hospital at all really. It's much easier to stay relaxed and the midwives there are just wonderful.
I'm going through the birth center again with my third baby, I'm now 22 weeks and due next March. I'm hoping to have an exact repeat of my last labor (but this time a girl bubba thanks!)
Good luck!

Hi. I know this is an old thread, but I was just wondering about the same thing and thought more people may have been there recently including OP.
I'm just a bit scared because last time I was pregnant I had an obstetrician (he wasn't really good and I didn't like him, but he was there if anything went wrong). Also, I went in to labour thinking I didn't want any drugs, but ended up begging the midwife for either an epidural or caesarian! I heard in the birthing centre they only do gas. I'm so confused and know that I need to get in early if I want to get in.
