hi i had a c section 5 years ago and found walking the best way to lose the weight but i also found that my tummy muscles where quite tender at first ,i found some yoga streches realy helped and using good posture as often as i remebered to .
there is a great book (im doing the program now after my second baby natural birth) its caled back in shape after baby by di wilson its published by harper collins .
she's had 3 kids and wentfrom a size 22 (or close to that ) back to her size 10 pre baby body .its also great because it gives you a body mind soul healthy life style plan not a diet !! im realy feeling much better since startig it .
how old is your baby ? i think your suppose to wait 12 weeks before you start realy exercising again .good luck and remember it took 40 wks to put on ,18 months for your body to be "normal " again so if it takes abit to be pre baby beautiful so be it :p love mummyb

hey girls ..

1 month and 3 days ago I had a c/s as well.

I'm walking on my treadmill .. just started again today for 15 mins and doing Weight Watchers myself .. I've never been to a meeting, I just have the books ..I'm having about 25 points a day and walking .. it WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I call it a Kit Kat diet .. as you can have a kit kat a day and still lose weight!

Walking is the best!

example menu .. if I can help anybody with points, just ask!

Menu ( total of 24 points )

Breakfast / cereal and milk = 3 points ( any kind )

Morning tea / 1 kit kat ( 2 fingers ) and a coffee or tea ( + 2 sugars ) = 3 points

Lunch / 98% ham sanga with Beetroot, slice of 98% light cheese slice, grated carrot, lettuce , tomato and cucumber = 4.5 points ( + diet pepsi )

Afternoon tea / Banana and Yoghurt "ski delight" = 3.5 points

Dinner / Steak ( normal size or chicken or fish ) with Microwaved Potato & Pumpkin with Salt and pepper under the grill with cottage cheese and carrots in honey with peas as well .. + a big FAT salad ( tomato, lettuce, capcicum ) = 6/ 7 points.

Desert / 1 kit kat ( 2 fingers ) and a coffee or tea ( + 2 sugars ) = 3 points

OR a frozen yoghurt ..

+ 30 mins walking and watch the FAT MELT! HONEST ..

If you've had any separation of your stomach muscles you shouldn't start sit ups yet. To check for separation either see a physio or you can check yourself: Lay on your back, put your fingers slightly below your belly button, and then raise your shoulders. If you feel a divot or depression under your fingers you have separation. Usually it's measured by # of fingers you can fit in side by side.

There are gentler exercises you can do in the meantime to rebuild stomach (and back) strength. If you do a search on postnatal exercise you should find some examples. I think the same exercises are recommended regardless of whether you've had a c-section or vb. The few I can remember are the Plank & leg raises.

Hi All!
I had a c-section in Jan and I found regular walking to be great!
The other thing thats good is aqua aerobics - Its low impact so theres not a lot of pressure put on your scar. ;)

MarthaM made a real important point. You should just have those-take-it-easy exercises after C/s.

Having brand new bub/s should keep you busy, and that’s an exercise in itself!

Also do remember that you should make sure you have had your postnatal check-up before doing any exercise.

Kind regards,

ThomasMum

I didnt have a c/s but i found the best way to lose weight after bubs, was water areobics, is fun and low inpact, i wore shorts and a tank top over my bathers so i didnt feel self conscious, and trust me there a quite a few women around the size 26 mark so it makes you feel a little better.

If your OB has cleared you to exercise (usually by 6 weeks) you can start pilates or yoga which are great for getting the tummy muscles back in shape. I would recommend going to actual classes and making sure that the instructor has experience with post natal exercises. My pilates instructor had a lot of experience and had a ceasar with her baby and I started back with her 6 weeks after my ceasar. You do need to be careful how you work the muscles and IMO in the first few months post ceasar that judgement is best left to a professional.
