View Full Version : Losec liquid suspension
Hi there,
Just wondering if anybody has found that Losec in the liquid form is less effective than the tablets?
I have been giving DS Losec for about 5 weeks now and things were going well and seemed to be getting better. We had another flare up about a week ago so the paed said to get Losec made up in liquid form so the dosage was more accurate. He's been on the liquid for about 4 days now and seems the pain has come back again.
Is this just a coincidence or is the liquid form not as effective???

we found that the liquid was not as good with DD when she was a baby. although we did find that it was easier for our paed to alter the dose when it wasnt working, in the end it did work out that a higher dose was what was needed as the liquid was diluted.
give it a week or so and if its still not working the way you want( remember its for relief not a cure, so there will be bad days)then i would go back to your paed or call and see what he/she says.

The liquid is def not as good as the tablets because the tablets are ground/polished into a paste.
I personally wouldn't use liquid with DS, he responds far better to tablets than liquid.
There is a way to get the right dose with tablets just have to bend the rules a little & find what works for you.
The paed wanted us to get the liquid as he wanted him to have 2.5mg in the evenings and didn't think breaking a tablet into quarters was accurate enough. I was doing this for a few days though while I waited for the liquid to come in from a compounding pharmacy, and DS seemed happy.
The paed wants him to go to a feeding clinic at the hospital (where they have speech pathologists that specialise in feeding) due to him losing weight and refusing the bottle. I'm sure we need to have the pain issue under control before going there as will surely interfere with any strategies they can put in place to help him eat. Does anyone have any experience with speech pathologists etc?
Many thanks for your replies. It's certainly a tough road dealing with reflux.

How do you get the right dose with tablets?

How do you get the right dose with tablets?
Brake a tablet into the amount you need (half tab is 5mg), put into a dry syringe, using warm water draw as much as you need to make it swim a little & administer.
Its the way we always gave it to DS.
ETA - Before going to the Speechies, please try to have the reflux under control. DS had a BAD food/feeding=pain association for a long time. There is nothing Speechies can do to get past the association if the pain into under control.
We saw speechies to teach DS & his sisters to suck which was really helpful. Once we got past the teaching part, we let DS go at his own pace.
