Hi Everyone! I was just wondering if anyone else suffered from losing hair after they gave birth?? I didn't lose any whilst I was pregnant, but now I seem to be losing heaps. It doesn't matter how much i brush my hair it just keeps coming out  i have long dark hair & my floor is in constant need of being vacumned! I have tried brushing my hair over the toilet bowl & even hanging my head of our balcony........i'm sure my neighbours think i'm crazy! how long does this last for?

When you are pregnant you don't lose any of your hair (which is why pregnant women have such thick, 'lustrous' (?) hair, so after you have given birth, you lose all the hair you neva lost whilst preggas, which is actually a fair bit as you've figured out!!! My hair feels so thin compared to when I was pregnant! I'm not sure how long it lasts though, sorry!

It is pretty common, but is yet another thing which no-one thinks to tell you!

Basically, when you are pregnant, your body holds onto a lot more of what goes into your body, vitamins and minerals, - which can account for the 'glow' - and it also stops shedding the amount of hair you normally lose when not pg.

So it is a little like a catch up when your body realizes it is no longer pg, and a lot of hair begins falling out.

I was the same, had tumble weeds of hair all over the house, it was grose!

I think it was about the 4 or 5 month mark when I saw a real reduction of hair loss, and then a monthor so later, I had heaps of new hair growth which looked quite ridiculous for a little while!

You won't go bald, but I know I felt as though I got a bit close for comfort!! Just kidding!

Ah yes, it's one of those joys they don't tell you about. It's stops around 4 months ( did for me) and like Angie, I had the lovely 'new growth' which took ages to blend in. It's just natures way of making you feel even less glamourous hehehehe! I'm enjoying my lush preggie locks ;) I know they aren't forever though.

Hey there - I have had an ep and I am now losing hair 8 weeks after it was removed. I have lost heaps of hair in the past too, about 8 weeks after a very stressful situation.

I think the body deals with stress an anxiety in different ways - for me its by shedding hair! I think there must also be some truth in what harmony & apprenticemomma covered...

I'm so sick of picking my hair out of MJ's fingers and off my clothes :p I alo have long hair so its so obvious that its falling out. i've taken to standing with my back over the bath when i brush it, then I can just collect it when i'm done :)

I hope it stops after 4 months cause MJ's almost there. Can't believe its been that long already.

Hair loss after birth is fairly common! I had this problem also - but it seems to have got much better!
Something that you could take is 'Silica' - from health food shops. It comes in a vitamin form. It helps promote healthy hair, skin and nails.
Hope that helps a bit! :)

Yes, I had very sexy looking bald patches above my ears for a few months. I think it was worst about 4 months after giving birth. It's fine now and has all grown back, much to the delight of ds who now loves to pull it really hard!

YEs...loss of hair, I remember the days when I had long thick flowing hair......
Those were the same days that the stomach was flat, arms were toned and energy levels were high....

Do not fear... my hair has slowly stopped falling out over the last month or so...(5 months after bubba) but how awful is it to see clumps of hair on the floor, in the drain, on the bed sheets, in your brush...yuck noone told me about this either when I was pregnant....

same as me!
my hair started falling out when my son was about 4 months, lots and lots, i would lean over the sink to brush my hair then collect it up and chuck it in the bin. i had to clean out the shower drain everytime i showered cause so much came out when i washed my hair. mine lasted 2 months, so there is hope in sight :)
i can suggest combing your hair when you wash it, this helps a little

ahh the joys of motherhood ;)
