Hey Everyone
Im new here & am desperately seeking help & advice!!!
I have a 10wk old daughter Lilah who we have had soooooo much trouble with. Im at my whits end of what could be wrong with her as i have tried EVERYTHING and nothing is helping
She seems to have so much trouble passing wind and pooing. At first she started to vomit alot and the paed said that she had some reflux but she was thriving so he put her on 4mls a day of omeprazole. This settled her down a little but then she started to get more and more things going on.
She seems asthough she CONSTANTLY has a belly ache, trouble passing wind and her poo is quite runny. When she does pass wind finally its usually followed by a splatter. Her tummy at times does seem a little bloated, but she just seems so unsettled and in so much discomfort ALL THE TIME!! its soooo frustrating as i have literally tried EVERYTHING.
I have read a few things on lactose intolerances and am finding alot of the information and symptoms are exactly what Lilah is getting. She is a breastfed baby and has top ups with reflux formula, i have changed and changed my diet but still no luck.
Im thinking of trying to lactose free formula but i was just hoping that maybe some of you have experienced similar smyptoms. Its hard to see her in pain constantly and getting lack of sleep due to continuous tummy pains...sometimes i cant help but think im doing something wrong or im missing something?
need any help or advice i can get thanks everyone:)
i am no expert. but these are my experiences.
ds 1 - FF from 5days, always spewing, crying a lot, wind, trouble pooing (constipated often) not growing very much. i asked the health nurse if it was possible that he was lactose intolerant their response was "oh you would know about it if he was", that left me wondering how exactly and feeling rather stupid as a first time mum. in the end we tried him on s26 LF, he didn't like that. tried him on a soy one and he did settle completely and started growing again.
(bare in mind it can take a while for it all to get out of system so had to allow at least one tin of usage before seeing major improvement.)
ds 2 - BF in beginning. was feeding often and ALWAYS scrunched up (like wind pain.) but growing like no tomorrow. i tried him on a normal formula first because i needed a break from the feeding. and he got worse and the poo turned green (i had been told by dr with ds 1 that green poo can be a sign.)
so put him on S26 LF, he is a whole new baby. and it took until he was nearly 2 mths old for people to actually see him stretched out and relaxed. when i tried the LF i did half FF half BF to see if it made any difference, when i saw small signs of improvement (going much longer between feeds and not having as bad pain) i then weaned him off the breast completely because i just wanted him to be a happier baby not in pain. (and some sanity back for me)
my advice would be to try the LF formula if that's what you want to try. Also look at the breastfeeding assoc website they did have info on lactose intolerance and bf i think or talk to a lactation person they may be able to help.
and her poo is quite runny. When she does pass wind finally its usually followed by a splatter
DS2 was like this when BF also.

Do not give up on breastfeeding just yet. It is something that I did with my DS2 when he had similar issues and I found that it didn't help any more than if I had stuck with it.
Is the reflux formula that you top her up with cow milk based? They usually are, so if you have changed your diet to exclude cow's milk, she will still be getting it from the formula.
Also another thing that it could be is a cow milk protein intolerance which is different than lactose intolerant. This means that soy milk will also cause problems because they have a similar protein.
With the reflux we found that losec worked the best for us. DS2 had 5mg twice a day and that seemed to settle him a lot. Also visiting a chiro helped a lot!
The bloated stomach is what worries me the most. Have you told your paed about it? My DS2 had that and it ended up being a serious (but manageable) health issue.
I hope you find out soon what is wrong with your little one :hugs:

Hey ladies :) thanks for your replies!!
The reflux formula is the S26 one, so im guessing it is cows milk based? I just got the one the dr recommened when i took her last.
I have given her 4 feeds on the lactose stuff which seems to have settled her tummy...she doesnt seem to be straining to pass wind or poo. but maybe its just coincidence and im just looking for anything that might work the slightest.
These are the things that she seems to be experiencing;
crying & seems to be in pain with wind or trying to poo
is restless whilst sleeping and brings her knees up alot
wakes easily and is often woken up crying in what seems to be painful cries
cries after feeds/between feeds
hardly sleeps during the day and doesnt go down til around 10-11pm no matter if i let her cry small periods
im just absolutely stumped! i have tried so much and just dont know what to do. I know babies cry and thats fine but she always seems to have so many tummy aches! last time i went to the paed he said she was perfectly healthy (think shes just got a big belly as she loves her food haha) i did forget to mention that she was 1 month early as i was induced. She was eventually delivered by caesar.
I just dont know what to do anymore its just so frustrating and nothing seems to help and its very stressful! i just want my little girl to have some comfort.
Ive tried colic drops such as infacol, infants friend, gripe water...nothing seemed to do much. Tried reflux formula, which helped her vomiting so much, but her reflux seems to have settled. its just her knotting tummy that seems to be the issue.
So bloody stressed out and just feeling quite bummed out as if im missing something. The dr didnt really say much when i took her to him with her reflux and my clinic nurse just asked if she had runny poo and suggested the lactose free formula? how can u get that from just runny poo? so much conflicting advice, i dont wanna do her more harm than good, just want wats best for my girl!

Here is a great website that has a lot of tips to make reflux easier.

:hugs: I know how tough it is when you have a baby that won't sleep and is screaming in pain.
