Does it drive you insane when people shorten your babys name?

Okay, Oliver getting shorted to Ollie, doesnt worry me. I kinda like Ollie too, and I often call him Ollie or Mr O....but what DOES bug the bejebies out of me is when people go....

Ollie Ollie Ollie Oi Oi Oi!

Do people do this to your children and how do you stop it?

Ive ASKED said people to stop but they dont listen! Next I think will come the threat that if I ever hear such crud coming from their mouth again Oliver will NOT be visiting anymore! LOL

Kazza - You little man will probably get Hugo, Hewie...etc...Arrggg! BTW I love the hane Hugh!

yes it is extremely annoying! im plain old kate but i always get asked if it is katherine

ashley also keeps being mistaken for a boy which drives me crazy. i had her dressed in pink from top to toe and at my first mother's group some old lady came up to me and gave me a name badge that was all done up in blue! She said "there you go, this is for you and your son"

She is only 4 weeks old but still. I know it is prob because her name is spelt Ashley rather than Ashleigh but its not an excuse!

I hate it when people make my name long.
I'm Nikki.. short for Nicola. SO MANY PEOPLE find the need to call me Nicole. But, furthermore, I'm only Nicola when I'm a) at the doctors or b) in trouble.

With Cobey, I call him Cobes and I don't mind people doing the same.. but my dad got really poopy with me the other day when I called him Cobes... "His name is Cobey, Nikki."
"He's my son, dad."

(I should note, my dad HATES the name Nicola and will only refer to me as Nikki... so much for what "names" are eh?)

My Mum thought she was being hilarious when she called Hugh "Spewie" then she came up with the classic "Pooie".
I did laugh though when my brother turned around and said "what about "No Cluey""

i get called jess, jessie and my brother calls me jesse-james lol
ds gets called: codz, superman, codules, codster, coby(a hard of hearing relative still maintains this ds's name lol)
i hate it when people call ds Coby or codz. the other i can tolerate.

we call griff all manner of things (Mr. Moo, matey potatey, potato)- but if anyone calls him george OR griff around his 2 cousins - WATCH OUT!! it's George Griffin (thankyou very much!)

I used to call my DH Tas the spaz (when we were younger) and he hated it! I'll occasionally call him that now and he gets crabby with me :o

I get Em or Emi... my mum calls me emmy lou lou (NO ONE else is allowed to do this!!)

I dont mind ppl shortening coops name lol, he gets cooper dude, coop, coop de doop, super cooper, dude, cooper patrick.... the list goes on lol. Cutest thing is when my best friends almost 4 yr old calls him cooper dude, so cute!!!

My name is Nissa so i only really get Niss or Nizzma (only from Ezzma lol) but what bugs me is when ppl try to guess what it is short for... am i not aloud to be just nissa???? Oh and often get called nisa (rhymes with lisa) and that REALLY annoys me. If you aren't gonna bother listening to my name the first time dont bother using it lol. Also from people who just meet me i get missa, melissa, lisa - everything but my name lol drives me up the wall lol

Nobody really ever shortens Chanel to anything...I guess they could try "Nelly" or something...but nobody ever has. Her nicknames are not related to her name...we call her "The Pig" (in a loving way of course..lol). I don't like it when anyone else calls her it though...it's a name that DP and I can only use. They can call her a Little Piggy or something...but that's still weird.

Dad calls her CoCo (as in CoCo Chanel...).

I'm Stacey, so I get called Stace a fair bit...I HATE it. Stacey is one of the skankiest names on the planet (seriously, rent out a movie with a "Stacey" character...she's bound to be either stupid or skanky...sometimes a combo!)...but I really think it's far nicer than STACE. I do get called Sassy too...but I don't mind that.

DP is Graham...so I call him GG...others call him Gray-balls or G-banger. Stupid really...but that's what boys do.

YES YES YES!!!!! I detest the name Jakey, as well as Brookie. Mattie I can handle, as I use it from time to time, but the others, hate it with a passion and it makes me cringe. MIL is the worst offender.

Rylen gets shortened to Ry a bit by my family which i absolutely hate i have never shortened his name even once cause i just don't think it sounds right and doesn't suit him:confused: Kyen gets called Ky most of the time by everyone including us and it doesn't bother me lol. I think that's because when we were naming him df really wanted to just call him Kai but it didn't sound finished imho so we made it a bit longer and just call him Ky. I am Rachael but only get shortened to Rach or Rae which i don't mind. Df is Charles but i haven't ever shortened his name to Charlie, he only gets called Charlie at work.

Being a Kelli, i have always gotten Kel, which i don't mind if your a friend, but used to drive me nuts when i was working, people would look at my name badge and shorten it! Fine if you know me, not if you don't.

My DH is Jason, which is shortened to Jase or J, which doesn't faze him as he's easy going. But we both agreed when naming DD to have something not much rhymed with, or that could be shortened, so we called DD Chloe - and it still gets shortened to Chlo.... I challenge them to shorten Jack (although some people have called him Jackie :banghead: which is LONGER... and (i think) its a girls name!!!!)

(NO OFFENCE TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE NAMED THEIR BOYS JACKIE!)

We thought we were going to be safe with JACK ... but he gets

Jack-***..
Jackson
Jacko
Jackie (we dont think of it as a girls name - we think of Jackie Chan :D )
JAck -pot
Hi-Jack
JAck-in -the box

you name it .. we have heard it ...

but I think it is an australian thing to do - shorten the name .. and if it cant be shortened ..you lengthen it (e.g. my brother scott = scotland... or scotty- he used to get scott the snot .. lol ) you might be fighting a losing battle ladies... its a cultural thing ..

I apologise right now - I always shorten or use nicknames ! It seems to sound friendlier !

I deliberately chose names for my kids that had a heap of shortenings so that they can choose whichever one suits them later. eg. My Anastasia gets Stacey from me, Anna from my brother, and calls herself Tasia.

Australia's just a shocker that way - at least, country towns lie mine are. Half the time the person you're talking to has a nickname and you haven't got the foggiest what their real name is at all ! It's kind of hard to look them up in the phone book !

DS is Lucas but he gets Luke but i dont mind my family have lots of names for him from Lukey,boo,little man, stinky,sushi{i started that one as when DS was born i had baby blues and cryed and said he didnt look like a lucas he looked like a sushi his part asian}

My daughter gets tah tah from my side of the family they have this thing with pet names and I ahve told them time and time again her name is ATAHLIA and if I wanted it shortened I would have called her tah tah!! It started because my nephew called her this now if they said her name correctly my nephew would call her ATAHLIA not tah tah.... I am about to teach her to say my name is atahlia>> that oughta shut them up... Seen as they ignore my request damn 30 yr olds calling her tah tah...

Ariene (are-ee-en) hasn't really been around long enough for ppl to start shortening it. But my mum keeps telling people her name is 'Arry-ann' which pi$$es me off because it's a different name altogether, and one we didn't choose.

Ocassionall ppl will call Ronan 'Ro-nie' but as long as they steer well away from 'Ron' I am happy. I love Celtic names (Ronan is Irish, Ariene is Welsh, both are popular names in those countries) and want these two left that way!

We shorten the boys' names anyway so that doesn't bug me too much. But my mother drives me up the wall when she calls DS2 Patrick. It is his name but from the day he was born we have called him PJ. My mum, grandmother and aunt all call him Patrick and wonder why he doesn't respond to them. They all know that we call him PJ.
Drives me nuts!

It's so true, if "they" can't shorten a name, "they" will lengthen it. My son Finn gets Finstar, Finnegan, Finlay, Finneous, Finarama, the list goes on...... But because he is such a honey and seems to suit ridiculous nicknames, I don't mind.

i hate it when people call jacob... jake instead.. it really bugs me.. as does jakey.. his name is jacob so call him jacob... i wouldnt mind if they said J for short cos that isnt changing his name its still the initial but saying jake or jakey is changing the name... but he gets called monkey, cheeko, snugglebuggle plus plenty more by his mummy and daddy...

It drives me totally insane, we named our son Jaxon, and spelt it that way, so it was different, and we didn't want him getting JACK..........

But people are intent on calling him Jack, especially the MIL.....(but i think she does it cos she knows it gets under my skin).

I make it a point of telling people how we have spelt it, so that he doesn't get Jack, but they still do it....aarrrrggggghhhh

My name is Heidi, and at school, and in general people thought it was so hillarious to call me "Heidi-go-seek", "Heidi-Ho-Neighbour" and "Hi-dee", oh and they use to ding that elephant song "hi-de-ho,hi-de-ho the great big elephant is so slow" and they thought it was also great fun to always ask me where my goats where, use to drive me completely insane.....

I was always intent on DS being called Zachariah not shortened to zach but from the day he was born everyone shortened it to Zach. At kinder I told them his name is ZACHARIAH and thats what they call him, he even corrects ppl that call him zach now, 'im zachariah not zach' he tells everyone and if u argue you get 'I'm ZACHARIAH COOPER S------'

DSS is always called Alex though, ive never heard anyone use his fullname!

Isobella is called Bella by everyone including me... I dont mind I think it sounds lovely and Savannah is always Savannah... tho we still have a while for ppl to come up with a nickname for her I'm sure
