My 8 Month old has shown signs of being allergic to Banana (she breaks out in a bad rash after just one mouthful, high temperature, diahreaoh, blisters on her mouth), Dairy (which i knew might be the case cos my son is also dairy intollerant) but the other day i bought a premade lasagne and mashed some up for DD and he face, and hands swelled up really fast, she got blisters on her face and started wheezing really bad - followed by vomitting and irritability - this was after only a tablespoon of food...
ANyone elses children have something similar? I dont know what it could be... maybe tomato???
my dd doesnt have the same thing... but it could be the cheese in the lasagne... if she has a dairy intolerance already... check the ingredients on the package and get her checked out!!!
good luck!!!

hi , a premade lasagne, could have so manyhtngs in it. Cream, or cheese which would trigger the dairy allergy, tomatoes,? onion? whatever preservatives?? I would be very cautious with any foods you dont make yourself, and I would be having bub seen by a allergy specialist. Babies can be allergy tested at 6 months, and perhaps even younger than that. Marie.
If she has a dairy allergy then you can't give her pre-made lasagna. I'm a bit confused as to why you did?
Have you seen your GP about her allergies? Her reaction sounds like an anaphylactic reaction. You need to go to your GP and get a referral to a paediatrician. She can get allergy tested and you can get an epi pen for her.
Don't take her allergies lightly....the reactions can get worse each time she is exposed. If she ever reacts like that again ring 000 and get an ambulance to her asap.

hi everyone, she only has a small intollerance to dairy - I removed the top layer with the cheese and scraped out as much of the bechmial sauce as i could, she only gets a lil tummy upset and tiny spots from dairy - so i know it wasnt that...
i know i should be more cautious - pretty silly of me, but with DS he ate whatever i ate when he was DD age..
It could still be the dairy...continual exposure can make the allergy worse and the reactions more severe.
Regardless, there's something she is seriously allergic to and you need to stop playing guessing games.
Please seek medical advice for her allergies. you need to know exactly what it is she is allergic to, you need to have a plan in place to deal with her reactions. You need to talk to someone who can educate you on the foods she can and can't eat, what you can substititute with etc.
The more she is exposed to her allergens the longer it will take for her to grow out of them.
I don't want to scare you but with a reaction like that from one spoon full of food....the next time she reacts her airways could close over and she could die. Sorry to be so blunt, but it's a risk you are going to take if you aren't careful. Make an appt. with your GP and don't introduce any new foods to her....only give her foods that she has eaten and been okay with so far.

Thanks areca. I made a doctors appointment - but couldnt get in til this friday at 2pm.
But today ended up at the hospital - My son (hes 5) gave dd a piece of his snack bar when i wasnt watching (it was an aldi's 'nut bar'), i took it off her as soon as i realised and all was fine - or so i thought - 15 minutes later we were at the hospital and DDs face and lips had swollen, her face was brilliant red and the redness was spreading really fast down her body, she got instantly hot and was crying so bad...
ANYWAY - they think she has a nut allergy - now i wonder if there was maybe a trace of nuts in that lasagne??? or maybe on the plate from DS (he loves peanut butter)???......
So they contacted my doctor on his home number and he said to take her in when the clinic opens tomorrow to discuss allergy testing - ive now fully disinfected everything and taken all my plates etc and cuttlery out of the draws and cupboards and put them through the dishwasher on strong - thrown away all DS's school snacks that contain nuts and now its a waiting game.
Her swelling subsided within the hour and a half and she only has minor redness on her face and arms now (almost 8 hours later) - but was extremely scary!
AT LEAST now i know that she cant have nuts and it sprung the doctors into action to give me a fast appointment. - im just so glad she only sucked on the bar and didnt bite any off and chew it...
So the doctor at the hospital said that a reaction so severe just from sucking on the bar most likely means that once allergy testing is done she may need to carry an Epi-Pen.
So now im reading up all about nut allergies and Epi-Pens... theres a course you can do to learn about them, if DD has to have one i will go and enrol in that course just so i know exactly what i am doing.
:hugs: It's very scary watching your child react like that. I'm glad she's okay. She likely has several allergies...DD1 was allergic to dairy, egg, tree nuts, barley and kiwi fruit in the early days.
I'm glad the doctors are getting her in asap...you will definitely need an epi-pen. Some doctors won't administer them if the baby is under 10kg...if you get one of those, find another doctor. The paed we see prescribed one to dd1 when she weighed 8kg and tld me to hold off on using it if she had a reaction because essentially we'd be overdosing her on adrenalin but if her airways were blocked and she was going to die then it was better to give the epi-pen and worry about the overdose later...it made sense!
The hospital where our doctors are have free epi-pen training sessions so definitely ask about them because they are around.
While you're waiting get your hands on some children's clarantyne, it's an antihistamine so helps to slow down the reaction.
Let me know how you go tomorrow.

Bananas and tomatoes are both high in amines. She may have an amine intolerance. My DD had similar reactions with foods high in amines. Try googling 'amine intolerance' for more information and a list of foods to be wary of.
