Hi

This is all a bit tongue in cheek! But....

I was wondering if you have changed your vocabulary since moving to OZ. I still cant bring myself to say lots of things. Should I? Should I be making the effort to "fit in?" You always hear people saying that if they dont make the effort then they should go back to their own country, does that apply to me?

Will my daughter be picked on at school if she picks up my expressions rather than her Daddy's Ozissms!

For example for me its:

A slide
A pepper
Yoghurt's
Courgette
Vest
Aubergine

What do you think???

LOL...it is the same when you move to different states within Australia... I moved to NSW from SA, and I had no idea what people were talking about at school with all the lingo... I then moved to QLD and I still have to ask "What the???", I didn't get picked on at school for speaking 'a different langauge' as SA is a bit like Tasmania, they think we r from a different planet...lol.....

I think your daughter will be fine, she might just have to explain what she's talking about.....

ACtually it was you english that gave us shag and snog...hmmmm LOL - , yep snog, what a great word, beats "pashing" no question about it. Shag, so classy I always thought, hard to resist a bloke when he asks you for one.

I can't get used to zuchini and eggplant so still courgette and aubergine for me!

Also can't get to used to hearing "but" on the end of sentences, for example:

Instead of: "I've got the heating on but it's hot in here now"

It's:" I've got the heating on, it's hot in here now but"

It's early days for us though, not been here quite a year yet so who knows, a couple more and maybe I'll be saying it!!!
