View Full Version : Reflux and Solids
Hi Lovely Ladies!
When your refluxers started solids, did they gag and projectile vomit?
I can put the tiniest amount of food on the end of a spoon and once it's in DD's mouth the gagging starts and then we're both covered in her last milk feed. I'm waiting at least half and hour after her milk feed to try the solids.
So far we've tried apple, pear and rice cereal (seperately and in different combinations) and nothing is staying down. Both Paed and PAed GI want her on solids to help with poor weight gain.
Any other foods I should try? Or tips and tricks?
TIA

Yep. J sure did. We gave up on solids with him until he started stealing food & eating it. He just wasn't ready when everyone thought he should be.
J is & was a shocking weight gainer. If he can feed himself, he'll eat till the cows come home. Spoon feed him, 2 spoons & it's all over rover.
We let him lead, less stress & no tears.

Oh & he HAS to have something in his hands during bottles.
When you say poor gain, do you mean slow to gain, not gaining, not following a curve or below 3rd %ile?
J is slow to gain but as long as his following his own curve we aren't overly worried.
His pead's have always sai as long as he as
his own curve it's not a problem.
ETA- some foods can make reflux worse. J's never been able to eat green vegies without being up all night refluxing. His just starting to be able to eat them now at 13 months. Still doesn't like to eat them cause he know it's could hurt but foes try.
Thanks TT, we see her Paed in a couple of weeks so will lay off a bit until then.
Any foods that went down better than others for J?
She's started to gain finally, after terrible colitis symptoms. I'm on dairy / soy / egg and wheat free diet...
She's dropped down on the charts, but I think now is between 10th and 25th

I was planning on asking the same question. Like is there any food we should avoid
Good to know re: green foods!!! I'm sure that will become my DH's excuse too!

We stayed away from greens till last week. Still a but touch & go with greens. Won't touch banana, apple or pear. Eats any stone fruit, grapes, strawberries. Prefers oats over rice cereal. I use to put oats threw the blender till they were half the size, now he eats them at full size.
Fruit gels were really good, they slid down & cooled the acid. Loves any meat.

Their all different with foods. J wouldn't eat/touch greens but friends DS can't touch white vegies. it's all trial & error.
Thanks again TT  You're a legend!
