My bub is almost 4 weeks, and i've been trying to breast feed, with some success, but it is getting really painful.

My left breast has been really sore and swollen all day. It feels really full, and its been leaking, but when i try to express hardly any milk comes out. Plus my nipples hurt, and feel really soft and waterlogged. I've been using lanolin cream and going topless.

Does anyone know whats going on and what i can do to relive it? I would really like to keep breast feeding.

even though it HURTS! try firm massage under a hot shower nozzle and then expressing. I also found a hot flannel really helpful......it does hurt for a while because your supply is trying to sort itself out....I hope this helps:hugs:

Hi,

You can help it by putting the baby to the breast as often as you can, help him to grab onto your areola by shaping it to the shape of his mouth. hold him facing you and have his back straight with his legs wraped in towards you.

Go to your nearest ABA or LC and get them to watch you feed.

i had mastitis when dd was 2 weeks. she was drawing blood out and there was no milk. go to ur gp and check because the only way i found ut was when i almost had a car accident caused by a bad chest pain

To all mums,

I had mastitis years ago. The Dr. failed to tell me to keep feeding my baby so I put her on the bottle. The infection is in the milk glads not the milk so, baby is safe & gets the nutrients they need + bonding. Do feed / pump out milk as many times as possible; i'll help with the healing process. Don't forget to see your gp / midwife for treatment & therapy.

Good luck ! Zontia:fingerscrossed:
