I hope you don't think I am silly in asking!! But I was just wondering, if you turn up to a hospital in full blown labour, they can't turn you away, can they?

Hi
No, but if they have no birthing suites available or the baby needs special attention they cant provide they may transfere you ASAP. Also full blown Labour would be assessed by their methods not yours, so if you were to turn up and push the baby out they just have to deal with it. Otherwise if you are in Labour they may try to transfere you before 2nd stage to the hospital you booked into.

Not a silly question. I was wondering the same thing. I wanted to go visit my family about 5 weeks before I am due for about a week. My brother (who has 4 girls - 3 step kids and 1 birth) didnt even know that we booked into hospitals! and his sage advice was to just turn up at the best hospital in the middle of labour so they have to take you, so I wondered the same thing...

No they cant turn you away, but if they dont have the facilities you will be transfered via ambulance to the closest hospital that can cater for you.
When I had DS#4 (27th december 05) at my local hospital there were quite a few holiday makers in that had, had there babies, the midwives were peeved & I dont blame them as you have to book into a hospital & that ment when the locals came in they were being transfered 35 mins away because there were no beds left. Surely you would not be going camping & over an hour away from your home at 40 weeks!
Sorry for the scroller! But no they cant turn you away.
