We are currently TTC #3.

I have had both of my babies in a public hospital as a public patient - Both my babies needed admission to special care nursery due to me having diabeties.

I wanted to make the most of my PHI with the next baby but recenly discovered the only private hospital in my area doesn't have a SCN and will only accept uncomplicated pregnancies.

That leaves me with the only option of using my PHI in the public hospital with my own OB.

Has anyone else done this?

i have seen this done numerous times with great success. You often have less out of pocket expenses than if you had of gone into a private hospy too.

Yep I did....

I didn't have to pay my excess, I never recieved any bills from the theatre staff( anesthetic etc) and I got a private room too...

Yep, for all admissions while preg & the kids since than. Never paid an excess, hospital works it so we don't.

One thing I will say is, if your bub does go to special care. Admit them as a public patient, care is no different at all & you won't get any bills for U/S etc.

Yup we did! We were also meant to pay $100 excess but never got charged! So it was great! And my hospital had foxtel that you had to pay for but as a private patient I got a free $20 everyday for it a a free newspaper! Lol not much of an incentive I know but it was nice beacause I had no idea we were gonna get it!
