Mid-July I recieved a letter from Centrelink:
"We have checked your entitlement using your annual family income and your family circumstances as we owe you $890.73"
I also have a "Payment Summary" from the past financial year for Tax-lodging purposes. I have A MEASLY TEN DOLLARS of tax withheld, but that means I have to lodge a tax return. (Which sucks).
I was wondering if, perhaps, the $890.73 I recieved would have included the $600 you apparently get once you lodge your tax return. I haven't lodged it yet...but I dunno...it's confusing me.
I would just like to know whether I should expect a bit of extra money coming into my account soon...I'd like to buy a new stroller, and if I AM going to get some extra dosh, I'll hold off buying the stroller until I recieve it.

I have to do a tax return because I was recieving Youth Allowance between 1st July and 20th July 2005 - DD was still in my stomach then. Therefore, I was only recieving Single Parenting Payment after the 25th July. THAT'S why I need to lodge the silly tax return. For those few days.
I have been paid the money promised in the letter - I recieved it a few weeks back.

I haven't received my letter yet, so i am assuming I am probably going to have to pay. It usually does include the $600 adn I always waited before spending any large sum of money from Centerlink in case it was a mistake.
Has your DP done his tax return?

if you didn't work or receive money from other sources then gov then you shouldn't have to do your tax return.
Their letters usually say when they will pay you the money and they don't usually tell you they owe you money unless their going to pay it but I'd prob ring them just to be sure as one never knows really with them.
It isn't really on topic, but being on a gov payment you usually do have to still pay tax (you decided how much though)... unless only on certain payments for a full financial year..
Anyway, got the same letter, I didn't know about any $600, haven't received info about it, just got my money... Not complaining. I'd guess you've gotten the most amount of money you will see from centrelink right now ...:o
The letter and money you received is your family tax benefit supplement so yes it includes the $600. Enjoy your shopping trip!

you shouldnt have to lodge a tax return unless you worked while on youth allowance. i was told that last year.most of the goverment benifiets are tax exempt if its your sole income.

Does your DP work ? If so, when did he submit his return ?

I was assumng that was the reason we hadn't received anything. It's with the accountant, so who knows when it is going to get in

Our accountant said that if we havent recieved anything in 3 weeks from the time they submitted it, to call them then they'll chase it up.

My DP doesn't live with me (yet - we're looking into it)...so I'm a single parent. It's not shared care either, because DD is with ME full-time...she's never spent a night at his place. So therefore, his tax doesn't make a bit of difference.
Thanks for the replies...I guess I should have saved that money a bit longer (I just bought a few items I needed...but I should have bought the stroller). It's okay though...DP has come into a bit of money (his Grandmother died and left him and his brother quite a bit of money)...so he'll buy it for us.
i havent got mine yet. we had our tax done 2 weeks ago i got my refund today which included the $500 cos dd was born before july 1 2004, just waiting on centrelink to get dh's tax info so they can pay me the $600 aswell.
