I have coslept with all of my bubs, my 3 sons would never sleep in a cot day or night because of this, but with my 3 month old DD I put her down awake in her cot during the day & she goes to sleep fine but at night I do like her to be in our bed so she sleeps with us & usually wakes for a feed once or twice.
The question I have is am I causing a future problem??? If she is happy to sleep in the cot during the day should I try her in it at night? Its funny but at night I think she prefers to snuggle up with me but I like the fact that she is able to put herself to sleep during the day in her own cot where I know she is safe.
Does anyone else only co sleep at night & bubs is in their cot during the day???
I just want to know if this will work Im worried as she gets older she may only want to sleep in our bed with me there & I wont get anything done!!!

Hi,
Did it cause a problem with your other children?

I would say go with what you have had success with previously. Personally I have co-slept with my boys and they choose when they no longer want to do it. The first was about 4ish and the second was 2ish though they know they are welcome in our bed whenever they wish.

Yes it caused them to have sleep associations where they would only feel secure with me being there next to them, so they would wake up if I wasnt & then only settle if I was there, although I never put them in the cot like I do with my DD.

we co slept with our DD1 until she was around 1 yr old, then we put her in her own bed which she had no problems with and she is sleeping fine in her big girls bed now, shes 3 1/2... DD2 sleeps with us at night most night too but I always put her to sleep in her cot during the day... and she sleeps fine then, night time she goes to sleep in her cot but by 1am she is usually awake and screamin the house down so she will sleep with us until morning.... i dont know when she will be ready to sleep in her own bed all night and it really doesnt worry me, unless shes 3 or 4 and still wanting to be in our bed.... DP always says to me "they are only babies for a short time".............

I would rather have my children sleep associated with me or their dad before a ruggie/Teddie/dummy/bottle.

Are they still sleep associated with you now? Mine grew out of it in their own time, I would assume unless you cause undue stress or friction surounding sleep yours will too.

i love co - sleeping. with dd1 she was with us until 2.5-3yrs, dd2 is nearly 3 and still with us, although she has her nap in her own bed, and now dd3, sleeps anywhere, in her bassinette, cot or with me:D we have no probs with this, our girls know that if they awake from a bad dream, they come to our bed, or if they sick. lucky for us we have a king size :D

ds1 sleeps in our bed coz he hates his cot. and the only other place at home he will sleep is on his fold out sofa lol but he loves sleeping in our bed. although last night he kept waking up crying wanting a cuddle from me and when i was like "i think i cna sneak away now" he would wake up and cry again.:(

Hi there,

Can't help you out with what will happen in the future, but my DD is the same as yours:) Day sleeps in cot by herself and nighttimes with us.
However, she is rocked /nursed to sleep for all of her sleeps/naps and then gently lowered into the cot/bed.
If you enjoy sleeping with her at night, I say go for it!:) They are only babies for such a short time in theirs & our lives. I used to resent having to rock my DD to sleep but now that she is getting older I actually enjoy it. I love smelling her :)

Thanks for all your replies, I have decided to keep going as we are, DD loves her cot during the day & I love her being in our bed at night, I have bought a bed rail to go on the side she sleeps on, I love snuggling up to her & she is my last bubba (co-slept with all), so Iam just going to enjoy it!!!:smiliedance:
