Our DS will be 3 in July and is waking up through out the night. Which was fine when he wants to go to the toilet and then back to bed. But now he is up at least three times and wants to hop in our bed. Which again is fine but when he is in our bed he just wriggles around.
He is cranky in the arvo and so we 're-installed' his afternoon sleep 2.30 - 4ish which mean he is now no longer going straight to sleep at 7pm, which is what he used to do when he had no afternoon sleep.
DO you think if he slept better during the night he would no longer need the day sleep.
What can I do to help him sleep better at night. Oh and he has started wetting the bed. Fully dry at night for nearly a year (with only an accident every now and then) but now for the last 3 weeks he is wetting everynight even twice some nights,...

** he has got a cold of some type
** we were on Holidays for a month in melbourne, came home 3 weeks ago
** My DH, who travels lots is home at the moment.
** We were all sharing a room when we were on holidays.

Help I need to get sleep and so does DH

How about reducing his afternoon sleep to 45 minutes. There could be many reasons including the ones your giving for him being up during the night. Sometimes they just need extra reassurance. I was talking to a friend who is a psychologist the other day and she feels most will do it at some stage and will stop in their own time.

The holiday may have confused him and his routine.
Stick to the usual home routine that you want him to have. Get him to go to the loo before bed and when he wakes during the night, get him to go to the loo and back into his own bed again. Explain that it's still night time and in the morning he can come in to your bed for a morning snuggle.
I would also try to cut out his day sleep and get him into bed at a reasonable hour at night.
My son's bedtime is usually no later than 7pm with no day sleep :)

When he wets the bed, just change him, and make the bed so it's easily changed during the night (I don't fully make my sons bed as he still wets it occasionally), I''ll strip it and put a towel down and a fresh sheet, then it's back to bed.
