Teaching kids responsibility.....

I have 4 they are a little young but at 3 and 5 I am getting ready to start the whole chart thing. DS1 has chart to get all his things reaady for school himself he knows what day he has things on and then has to pack his bag the night before. He often forgets things and I feel guilty I am putting too much on him but he has to learn sometime and it makes it easier for the younger kids to follow when they see their big brother doing it ( btw he is really disorganised). I can already see Ds2 has an organisational streak in him he will be better than DS1 when it comes to school.
By the time i have a 5,6,7,9 yr old it will be like boot camp at my house. One will be on lunches the other the bathroom, 2 clean up after dinner. I always say to my kids you can't bring money intot he house but you can offer help to make daily life alot easier for everyone in the house. Dad and mum do it everyday as well as work and the least children can do is pull their wait as they make most of the mess.
