im making a casserole in the slow cooker (serves 12) and i need to put a whole bottle of red wine in it. can the kids eat it? what happens to the alcohol while cooking. dh says it will "cook out" and it will be ok for them. please help? thanks

I'm pretty sure it does, especially in a slow cooker. I make a risotto with wine in it and I give it to my kids because it cooks for about half an hour, which means most of the alcohol would be gone. What would be left would be so minimal it wouldn't be a problem.
Also, I assume that any recipe that calls for one bottle of wine would have a LOT of other food and ingredients so that would minimise the alcohol too.

As long as it's boiling it will cook out.
You could always substitute all/half whatever of wine for stock. I'm assuming with red wine it's a beef casserole, so beef stock.

It should cook off..... :)
Just have a cup of the gravy before you serve it up! If it makes your head spin dont feed it to the kids! LOL ;)

:laughing: thanks guys. were having guests for dinner (thats why there so much - my 5.5L slow cooker is full to the top) and theres going to be 4 kids eating it. i think it will be right. :chef:
