View Full Version : photographers!!!
hey all. we have been very slack and havent had any bubby photos taken of aiden yet, although i really did want to. but im not impressed with the way pixi foto and portrait place hound you. almost everytime i go into a kmart/target/myer i get attacked by them, and the few times ive agreed to them calling at a later date to set up a time they never call when u say you would like them to!! and several of the people have been very rude:banghead::mad:
anyway, i was just wonderin who you have used?? and if you would recommend them? we are also looking to not spend TOO much if possible lol. although i know ill get carried away!:laughing:
Hey Neeky, I haven't used them but "Little Images" have a coupon in the Clever Coupons catalogue for a free sitting and photo (20 x 25cm) Valued at $128. They are in Alderley, Sunnybank, and Alexandra Hills. Coupons are available at www.clevercoupons.com.au (http://www.clevercoupons.com.au) I did 'win' a free sitting with them from the baby expo. They called once and said to call them if we wanted to take them up on the offer. I can't stand the people that harass you while trying to do shopping. I tell them my dad is a photographer (he is) and don't need anymore shots (lie, can never have too many!), that gets them moving along quicksmart.
Digi-Tot's, they were brilliant! We got about 15 photo's all different sizes and a dvd with all the photo's on it so we could email them and print them at home. They are lovely, they are in shopping centres but not regularly, so it's when they're there you just have to get them done.
I agree with your view on pixies etc they always jump on you and it's always when the kids aren't in the best of moods and definately aren't visibly ready for photo's. Drives me nuts :banghead:

Hi
We've used Portrait Place but quite pricey. We are now trying Picture Moments (they were at the Pregnancy/Parents Expo). A friend used them recently and we've seen great pics. Packages were considerably cheaper than others we've priced.
Good luck!
Pauline
I have used Little Images & I would highly recomend them:thumbsup: . The photo's were gorgeous, they are relatively cheap in comparrison to Portrait Place/Pixi & they let you pay them off whatever way is easiest for you as little as $5 a fortnight if you want, Plus they don't make you pay a deposit:yes:
I definitley s be going back to them for more photos for DD's 1st birthday.
I can recommend Little Images too  We had some done there in Jan and they turned out great. I'll bring them next time we go to the park :)

i have had pixie photos done at mt ommaney and have found them quite nice and fairly cheap compared to some of the others. i have always recieved free sittings and a free 20x33 (or close to that size).
i have however encounted the numerous attacks at other stores to use pixie photo.
Another good place, (i just love photos, ds is 10mths old and has been to 6 different sittings,) is little masterpiece studios who travel from shopping centre to shopping centre. They are more expensive, but still reasonably priced and give you the rights to the photos/negs when you purchase a package. i like them also as ds won 3rd prize in one of the promotions they hold at each centre and got a free enlarged photo :smiliedance: (actually one used in avatar). They also have payment plans and staff really friendly.
It's funny hearing other ppl's opinions because i didn't like Little Images at all. We won the free package and out of the 10 different shots i would say only 2 were professional. The others i swear i could have done a better job. Needless to say we walked away with the free photos only.
Portrait place i found the same, they were alright, but not that professional, plus they are much dearer!
I've never used Pixi before just because they annoy me when they hound me all the time! lol
Little Masterpiece Studios and Gotcha, both in shopping centres, have been the best i have found so far. Great photos and both affordable, plus they both offered the payment plans.
I think alot of them can just be luck aswell with who is taking the photos that day. Thats why i refuse to pay for a sitting (or at least more than $10). Then at least if they are no good i haven't wasted money.

i won some free photos at the expo too - one with little images (sunnybank) and one with picture moments (near garden city) on the day i thought the ones at little images would look better than the ones at picture moments because beth was a real poser for the first one.
at picture moments the photographer was really nice and dressed beth up in some costumes and let her play with some props (they had a cute little moter bike too). we had a look yesterday at the ones from picture moments and i really liked them. i only wanted 4 out of the 6 shots (i didn't really like 2 of them) so we got a 4 piece package. the package ($340) worked out cheaper than to get the individuals of the ones we liked ($400 without the enlargement or dvd). individually it was $50 a sheet (either 1 8x10 or a 8x10 sheet with 5 photos the same on it) we ended paying only $340 and we get 4 of the 5 photo sheets and 4 of the 8x10 single shot as well as a big enlargement (normally $150) and my free photos and a dvd with the photos on and the negatives too. and we can do a payment plan. they will let you take home the photos after you have paid for half.
we haven't seen the little images one yet but i will let you know how they go.
we invested in a Canon eos 350D, some good lenses and flashes.
Then with a bit of practice you can get the pics YOU want when YOU want them!
Worth every cent (bought all ours brand new from hong kong through E-bay heaps cheaper than buying in Aus.)
we've got some alright pics from our crappy digital camera, but i really want some professional ones..... and mums on my back about when we will get them done too lol
i will keep ur recommendations in mind while i shop around!
A professional quality camera makes anyone's photos look good, thats why we invested in one ;)
Hi there
i had my sons photos taken by pixi horrible i will never waist my money there again cost me $300 for th package but they only took 2 good photos out of 5
I tryed GOTCH THE KIDS PHOTOGRAPHER recently and i think they are fantastic but oops:banghead: didnt get the girls name who took the photos
They arnt cheap but i told the girl about the problems with pixi so she showed me some photos on her camera and they were good so i agreed to wait and purchase them when they were ready
i got about 8 poses plus won 2nd place in the photo comp for $500.00
they were good sizes too
Put your foot down and demand to see some photos before you pay your sitting fee
after all they want your buisness
but how do you know if you want theres until its too late
thats so true.
well thank you everyone for your suggestions. my mother has solved my dilemma tho, she got tired of waiting so she got me a voucher to have some done at some place (dont remember the name!)
guess we'll just wait and see what they are like!
I know three independant photographers and would recommend any of them.
When DD was 3 months old, we had Julene Westmoreland come to our home and take photos. She was soo nice. She brought backdrops with her, so with some extra people standing holding sheets etc, it looked like we were in a studio setup.
Her details are:

Then a few months ago we had some taken by Amanda at Studio Lime. Though they specialise in interior design, she's an awesome photographer and can setup a studio at her place or come and see you. They are http://www.studiolime.com.au
We've also met a lovely young lady called Trudy Bolton at Studio Con Brio and her work is also amazing ... http://www.studiocb.com.au/ The photo on my profile was casually snapped by her as little one was napping in her carseat.
Independant photographers aren't cheap, but then I've seen the hundreds of dollars that some of you have paid for photos you are less than happy with.

Hi
We had beautiful pregnancy photos taken by Rebecca Williams if you want more info then PM me and I can pass on her details she is just starting out her business and comes to you or on location she does work that is up there with the best of them at a price that doesn't compare to your house repayments.
bub 6wks:kiss:
I know you have already got someone, but for anyone else who is interested, there is a fabulous place called ivy photography that specialise in kids and family photos. The best part is - they will come to you if that suits you better, or meet you in a park/outdoor setting of your choice.
PM me if anyone would like further details and I will pass them on.

I got my DS first phots at 6 weeks old done at Little Images, and yeah they are great........I got a package of 8 A4 size photos, and heaps of little ones, the entire package was only approx. $360 plus you get them on CD if you purchase the whole package, so you are free to print off as many as you like......
Whereas, I have paid $70 for 1 photo, from a different place, and for less photos they wanted to charge me a higher prce, than what I got at Little Images........
I found the pixie photos I got DS done looked cheap and tacky...that was at the local target.....

I use GFP studios in spring hill. We get free sittings so im not sure how much a sitting is but they have the most beautiful photos i have ever seen. the staff are really nice too. the packages are 250 for a package of the photos and that's for 3 poses but u get a few different sizes and that.
