Hi Girls,

I'm just wondering, how many of you who have PCOS also struggle with your weight and would consider yourselves overweight ? And how many are having troubles TTC as a consequence ?

I was diagnosed with PCOS 18 months ago, after TTC #3 for about 9 months unsuccessfully. I was put on Yasmin and that managed my symptoms beautifully.

I was 86 kg (171 cm).

Over the next 12 months, since diagnosis, I lost 22 kg - dropped down to 66 kg.

Now, I am hoping that this weightloss has stimulated my body in ovulating again. And that's why we are ttc once last time, before age becomes a factor.

So - have there been any success stories of weightloss and conception, with PCOS ?

I'm just wondering, how many of you who have PCOS also struggle with your weight and would consider yourselves overweight ? I have PCOS, i struggle with my weight and yes i consider myself overweight, im now 94kg. (and 167cm height)

And how many are having troubles TTC as a consequence ? i dont know, i think that is some of the problem, cos before i got preg with DS i was 122kg, i lost 34kg (making me 89kg) and got preg. i put on baby weight, and went back up to 105kg, and have been trying to lose it since he was born (9.5mths ago) so far iv lost 11kg. :fingerscrossed: i get preg soon!

Welldone on your weightloss, good luck TTC, and i hope what iv said helps at least a little :)

Yes, weight is a big factor with my PCOS.

It has completely stopped me from ovulating and at my peak weight I didnt ovulate or have a period for over 12 months.

I then lost 18kg and started ovulating again with three cycles 6 weeks apart, which for me is amazing!

A change in circumstances saw me putting some of (ok most! :o ) of that weight back on so Im at square one again and we're getting my weight back down.

Alls going well and Im happy with the results so hopefully I'll ovulate soon!

Just the fact that I know that weight loss triggers an ovulatory cycle for me is encouraging - and its that fact that keeps me going on this ttc journey.

All the best - theres lots of us out there!

Hope your next bubba blesses you soon!

P :)

Hi mummamoo

Yes...I have problems controlling weight........I'm not overweight...I struggle to keep my weight down and if I ever put on a few kilos....its SOOO hard to lose :banghead:

As for TTC...DD was conceived with the assistance of my best friend Clomid.....second pgy was a natural conception to our surprise  as we wern't even trying. However that ended in m/c and of course now that we are trying it hasn't happened and don't think it will!!! I'm going back to my gynob who will prob put me on clomid again.

So in answer to your questions yes and yes!! I HATE having PCOS!

Hi Sara,

Yes, I have struggled with my weight for years, and I was diagnosed with PCOS just over 1 year ago.

And how many are having troubles TTC as a consequence ?
We fell pg after 6 months of trying, but we were diagnosed with PCOS the same month we started trying, so I don't know that I can say we had trouble ttc, but I do know I wasn't ovulating until after the diagnosis and treatment began.

So - have there been any success stories of weightloss and conception, with PCOS ?
My doc put me on a modified Aitkins diet much to my horror  , but no drugs. The weight fell off. I had already lost 6 kg that year, then lost another 12 on that diet, and about a month before we fell pg my blood tests showed that my testosterone was back to normal and I had seen my cycles go from 9 weeks long to 5 weeks long. I got a positive pg test on day 28 of my cycle (I had never had such a short cycle in my life). I am currently pregnant with our first child - DUE TOMORROW!!!! :smiliedance: - so I would count that as a success story.

All the best with your journey. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk.

It's so good to hear that weight loss can kick start the body into ovulating again! I hope that's the case for me. I should know soon, because AF is due any tick of the clock (if I have ovulated) and I have never been so anxious to get her. One of two things will happen, and both will be equally great - I am pregnant or AF turns up in the next couple of days, meaning I'm back on track.

Doesn't PCOS just suck. It seems to be epidemic at the moment. It makes me wonder if it's our diets today .. because not only is PCOS an issue, but so are weight problems .... we are a changing society.

being within a healthy weight range does not necessarily mean you will start to ovulate though (although I do agree it can help).

I have PCOS and so do my 2 older sisters... I am 165cm and weight 65kg with a 27% body fat (ideal is 25%). My two sisters are quite thin. I have not ovulated in 5 months since coming off the pill (am currently on Clomid), my oldest sister rarely ovulates and my middle sister never does.

I just wanted to give you another side of it.

good luck though! :fingerscrossed:

I have what my GP says is mild PCOS. My weight is definatly related to ovulation and length my cycle.

At the moment I am 65kgs and 165cms (snap NicoleE!) which is the highest weight I have ever been. 63kgs was my previous highest weight and I was not ovulating regularly then, before DS2. So I doubt I am ovulating regularly now. (These are non-pregnancy weights)

My perfect weight for ovulation appears to be around the 56-58kg mark, so I better get dieting if I wish to conceive no 3

On the flip side I did ballet quite seriously when I was younger and was very thin around the 49kg mark. I didn't have a regular cycle then either. I guess it goes both ways.

I guess the positive thing for PCOS sufferers is that losing weight may help regulate cycles and makes you feel heaps better :yelclap:
