Hi
I am due to have my first BOY in September and want to have him circumcised.
Being my first boy (I have a daughter who is almost 2), I have no idea how to go about it... Is it done in the hospital when he is born, or later on? What do I need to organise? Can anyone recommend any good Doctors who will do it in the Liverpool/Bankstown area?
G'day CrispyChicken. No, it's not done in the hospital anymore unfortunately. You will have to find a doctor to do it privately (cost varies substantially). I personally called up the maternity ward at the local hospital and asked them who is in the area and they gave me a list of names.
Some doctors have their own restrictions on age and method, so if a doctor says you have to wait until he is 6 months (because they use a general), just call another one if you want it done earlier.
Google may also help you find one.

Speak to a GP in the area - circumcision would be high in the area because of the high Muslim population in Bankstown/Liverpool (its required for Muslim boys for health and cleanliness). There's no prayers or rituals with Muslim circumcision, just the normal standard procedure and it can be done by any doctor of any faith in a regular clinic, so I'm sure there would be quite a few GPs who could refer you on. Good luck :)
