Hi,

Was just wondering if anybody else has the same problem. I am using the Tommee Tippee wide-neck bottles and fast-flow silicone teats for my 1 y/o son. Haven't had a problem with them before but now, for some reason, every time he has his bottle, after a few sucks, the teat starts getting squashed and then starts sinking into the ring around the neck IYKWIM?? It's as if the teat is retracting into the bottle. I have to keep stopping and pulling the bottle out of bubba's mouth and pulling the teat back out and start again. It frustrates me and bubba to the point that he refuses to keep drinking. Don't blame him. The teats are fairly new and at $8 each, don't particularly want to buy more. What could be the reason and what other brand might you recommend in the wide-teat category?

Thx

Antoinette

It's not that the teat is too soft. The problem is that as your baby sucks, it creates a vaccum in the bottle, which then pulls the teat back in. When you get him to let go and you pull the teat back out, that breaks the seal and air goes back onto the bottle through the hole in the teat.

Try loosening the ring a little to allow air to get back into the bottle. That might help. :)

I have seen a new fancy bottle at Woolies that has a straw like thingy up the middle of the bottle with allows air to get in as the baby sucks the milk out. They are expensive, but might be worth a try if your little man can't get the new teats/bottles to work for him.

I have the exact same bottle and the exact same problem. I tried loosening the cap but then it just leaks. DD gets so annoyed she won't drink form it anymore. I wish I could find a sippy cup or bottle with a spout that doesn't leak/have a stupid teat that squashes/smells because it sweats on the inside due to what it is made from.

Everyone I have bought says 'None Spill, None leak'.....yet a open it when i get home, pour water in it, tip it up and guess what...it leaks!:banghead:

I have spent well over $70 and still haven't found a good one.

Have you tried the Heinz Baby Basics cups? Some of the children I used to work with had them and they seemed to go well. Plus they come apart easily and can be cleaned so they don't smell/grow yucky things. They have a soft spout bit and the ones I saw had stood up the the rigors of childcare :) With the valve thingy in right we never have any leaks.

Hi, if your bottles have a vaccum problem you might like to try a brand that I discovered recently. They are called 'Chicco' and the Chicco Primgiorni Newborn Physiological Feeding Bottle is quite unique in that it has a screw cap at the base of the bottle which can be loosened during the feeding process to allow air in without the leaking problem (unless you forget it is loosened and tip the bottle back upright during the feed). They also have a 30 degree angle in the middle of the bottle which makes holding it much more comfortable and assists with the milk flowing down into the teat area much more easily. My baby was refusing literally every type of bottle on the market until I discovered these ones and now she takes a bottle no problems at all so they are very useful for fussy bottle feeders. The only problem (well minor incovenience) is that they are quite tall and won't fit in a conventional steriliser properly (can be tilted at an angle) and are too tall for most microwaves. I warm mine by either placing it in hot water or making the bottle up with warm water to begin with. The bottles are available from a store called Babies Galore their website is www.babiesgalore.com.au (http://www.babiesgalore.com.au) Hope you are able to fix the problem.
