View Full Version : Has anyone given birth recently at Monash Clayton.
Hi all,
Im booked in for Monash Clayton and was just wondering if anone had any recent experience there as im aware that they have brand new birth suites ect.
Also did anyone get to use the bath. I have done atour and am aware that there is only one room for this so its first in best dressed.
How long was your stay?
Thank you :D

I went thru the birth centre in January, had a water birth and stayed 1 night. It was great, bc midwives were fantastic, can't recommend it highly enough. I don't know about the normal maternity but I did spend a couple of night in the post-natal ward ( not birth centre) a couple of weeks before baby born and it was pretty busy but nice midwives etc.
Annabella: Thank you! Do you reccomend the water birth?
Im happy to go with the flow but if the option is there its nice to know.

Yes highly recommend a Waterbirth. I wanted one but didn't want to get my hopes up incase it was being used or some other reason I couldn't use the bath. I'm so glad I ended up being able to now tho. All the midwives were really excited I had a waterbirth, I think they're all really into it. They were all just so lovely. This was my 3rd child and best labour, although it was the longest, but I think it was longer coz they were completely hands-off, no breaking waters etc. Less painful, very calm, really lovely.

... Can u have a waterbirth at monash?? I will be there in February next year :)
I had a waterbirth at Monash for my first baby and it was magic! I hadn't planned it but my wonderful midwife suggested the bath for pain relief and was happy when I said I'd rather not get out!
I had a terrible experience at the Royal Women's a couple of years later, though I managed a natural birth, and now I'm prgnant with number three I just want to go back to Monash! Unfortunately I now live 2 and a half hours away!
So jealous- water births are the best thing and should be offered as a matter of course!

I can't fault the care at Monash up until giving birth, as well as the first part of my labour. I was keen on having a waterbirth but missed out as my labour was long and other women kept jumping in. The midwives were BEAUTIFUL, especially the one I had that was so helpful, no matter what happened, I was so lucky to have her.
Due to a few complications, however, I was transferred out of the birth centre and out into regular maternity/obstetric care as I requested for an epidural. My birth was somewhat traumatic and the thing I hated most was being given an episiotomy without my consent (I had stated this on my birthplan which one of the midwives had signed off during antenatal appointments) and I wasn't happy with after care at the time (especially with obstetricians that kept blowing off my concerns!) but I know that things in the birth centre would have been completely different, according to friends who have birthed there.
Now that I know more about labour and what went wrong, I'd definitely birth there again if I could choose the birth centre option. I wouldn't choose to go into regular maternity and obstetric care though, as I found their attitude to birthing was the complete opposite of the birth centre... and completely ruled by obstetricians
