View Full Version : Things to do with a 14month old in Brisbane inner north
DD is a very active toddler, who loves climbing running and generally going crazy, and we both go crazy if were home two days in a row or more.
ATM we go to ABA meetings, HMA meetings and playgroup but really need another couple of activities for the other days.
Apart from going to the park does anyone have other suggestions of things to do with a toddler in inner north Brisbane?
I'm trying to find a gymnastics type program that takes 14month olds because I think she would love it, or maybe something musical? She won't sit still so library story time and singing groups are out. We were doing swimming lessons in summer but I don't like indoor pools so thats out till next summer.
Check out the brisbane city council website for the active parks recreation program in your area; they have little kids "sport" groups, mum and bubs walking fitness sessions and lots of other active things to do for free. Also check out the State Library - i think they have free kiddies yoga on the lawn, also lots of activities at the museum (dinosaur play area), and the Art Galleries have different activities at different times. Not sure about where you are on the northside, but our local PCYC has toddler gym, dance classes etc... so check out your local one.
Hope this helps!

Did you end up finding any sort of baby gymnastics? I am looking for something like that for my very active 13 month old DS as well. I know you say you don't like indoor pools but have you had a look at aquatic achievers? I really like the look of it there. There is a playcenter at Nundah called Tiddlywinks and they do mini discos there every day I believe and a couple of times a day and its included in the entry price.
I did find some gymnastics actually, ymca runs a toddler gym from 14 months, we went to try it out and will be starting in a few weeks (next term starts in 3 weeks time). Will check out the kids "sports" groups because we would love to get DD interested in team sports (especially soccer) if she is open to it. Yoga sounds great too, but maybe next year, were still at the "please stop biting mummies toes" stage, not quite ready to follow instructions.
Downey Park, Grinstead Park.....
I thought you were in Holland Park area????

No its not... Its north side and inner city? So inner north??
Maybe I should just said CBD and made things less confusing :p
Think we might need to take some bread and go visit the ducks, "birdy" is one of DD's few words :)
You have me confused though, have you changed your username?

No Brisbane is actually divided into north, west, east, and south:p not just north and south. But yes, it's north of the river.
And yes, I am stalking you:):raspberry:, I'm just going to sit here and let you work it all out hehehe.

DAMNNNNNNNNNN I gave myself away:p!
I would describe it as inner north-west. Inner north would be more Kelvin Grove.
Anyway, the PCYC at Suncorp does a playgroup for walkers. I haven't been (it's too early at about 9.30am...:o) but I've been to the crawlers one, and they had quite a lot of equipment.
They have the details on their web site. You pay an annual membership fee, but you don't have to pay it until you've gone to one or two sessions (you just pay the session fee - about $6, from memory).

Kelvin Grove is almost walking distance from where we are, so I think I'm close enough. I did look into the PCYC there, but 9:30am is a little early for us too, do you need to book or can you just show up? Might be more doable if we don't need to book.
No booking. It's just a casual pay as you go one.
I think it's on every day, but have a look at their web site.
I think it's teacher led.
Paddington is definitely north-west though.:D
Interesting... That might be something we will check out on the mornings when DD wakes up earlier. Sounds like something she would love :) Worth at try at least!

The crawlers one was quite good, particularly for that price. They did songs, playing on the equipment etc. I imagine the walkers one is a variation on it.
