Hi

I am just curious to know how many bottles a 9month old should be having. He was having four and than dropped one so I was giving him one at Breakfast, lunch and dinner. He was quite happy with this as he was having solids of breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. I noticed that at day care which he attends three days a week they can give him up to three bottles from 7.00 to 4.00. Which means he is having five bottles a day. I am a bit confused??? He isnt very good when it comes to drinking water so I thought maybe it is nothing to worry about because he is getting the fluid from his milk. What do other mums think? Your input would be GREAT! :p

Thanks

Hi my bub is almost 10 months old & i am in the process of weaning with just one more feed to drop. Kayden has a bf when he wakes up, a bottle about 2pm and then another one before bed. He also drinks water at all meals - 3 solid meals and 1 snack. Hope this helps - my mchn said three bottles at 91/2 months was ample but from what i can gather they all have different views.

At 9 months, they suggest you should be down to 3 bottles a day ie breakfast, lunch and dinner which is what you were/are doing at home and then water or juice for morning and afternoon tea snacks.

If he is having more at daycare, either he is thirsty and they are giving milk or they might be mis-reading a tired cue for hunger??

Maybe you could have a word to the day care center and find out why they are giving him the extra bottles to put your mind at ease. If your concerned just ask them to try water instead.

I hope this helps.

DD was still getting 4 bottles per day on day care days long after I dropped to 3 bottles a day on home days. She didn't miss the extra bottle when I had her home. I finally had to ask her carer not to give the mid-morning bottle. She had just been giving it out of habit, and because i kept sending an extra one!

hi all,
my bub's almost 8 months he has 4 bottles a day and three solids he is still waking a 6 so had a bottle then and then the rest after his meals.

my friend has a 9 months old who is only having 2 bottles a day, he just wont take any more, she gives him some yoghurt and cheese to add to his calcium.

she has told me that soon my bub will wake at 7 too and i can cut that 6 am bottle ? did this happen to others?? 6 am isn't my favourite hour

peace

I breastfed dd daughter on demand even when she was eating several meals a day. I did however find some papers in my mch book saying to demand bottle feed??
I have a 3 week old and a 18mnth old and 18mnths ago that wasn't the info I read. So it seems that your now suppose to let bubs decide how many bottles he wants. As i said I don't bottle feed but found this info and was shocked as everyone I know bottle feeds going by a certain amount a day.

Okay I need some advice here. My 10 month old is having 4, sometimes 5 bottles a day (180 ml). I would love to drop one but the problem is I have gotten him into the habit of having a bottle to go to sleep. He has a bottle when he wakes in the morning then 2 through the day at sleep time then 1 at bedtime. I just don't know how to go about getting him to sleep without a bottle - he will just fight it then get overtired and grumpy - any ideas would be appreciated.
