View Full Version : knocking out dummy if not swaddled???
DS sleeps in a Woombie, in an Amby Baby Hammock and uses a dummy. I want to wean him from the wrapping but he keeps knocking out his dummy, but if I start by removing the dummy while he is still wrapped he can't access his hands to self-settle. Once he is unwrapped I will move him to the cot ( which is why I want to start working him off the wrapping). Anyway-any suggestions? how do you approach this without going cold turkey all at once?? Oh-he is 5 months old.

Just keep wrapping him? Some babies find a lot of security in being wrapped up. My son liked to be wrapped until he was so big I was using a cot sheet (around 14 months old). That was how he felt safe and comfortable so that's what I did. He gave it up eventually on his own terms, same with the dummy, the co-sleeping etc. Good luck.

I had the same thing with my DD when i stopped wrapping her about 5 months old.
Best thing i found was to introduce another comforter like a blankie or we use a seahorse toy-thing that has a soft light & plays soft music for about 5min. It has little silky ruffles on it & it is enough for her to touch & quietly play with until she falls asleep without being too stimulating & it keep her hands pre-occupied from taking/knocking the dummy out. It took a couple of weeks for her to become attached to it, but now as soon as we put her in the cot she will reach out for it & settles to sleep pretty quickly.
Even better, she has started settling now without the dummy for the last few weeks & doesn't even cry out for it as she is more attached to this other comforter (now 7mths), which means not having to keep going back in through the night when she has dropped the dummy again- yay! :)
