ds is on antibiotics to help recover from his bronchitis and they have pretty much cleared it up but the dr said he has to take the whole lots of the medicine to make sure it wont come back. anyway, he went to his thrusday daycare and i filled out the medicine form and made sure the room staff who went through the form were aware of the need for it to be in the fridge and when to give it to ds etc. he was spose to have it with his lunch (sounds easy enough hey)
i go to pick ds up at 4:30pm and get told "do you have a mobile number? we tried to contact you today about ds's medication it says on the bottle before meals and you said after so we didnt give it to him" which i thought was just a misunderstanding as i had explained the chemist had said it didnt matter if it was given before or after food it just had to be given WITH a food. then the worker went on to say they couldnt locate my mobile number on the computer and i asked the recpetionist and she found my mobile number in 2.5seconds. so i dont know whether or not the room staff just "forgot" to give it ds the medication or what. coz i never got no phone call, dp was home all day and he said he didnt get a call from the daycare.
should i put a complaint in coz i have been thinking, whats if that was ds's emergency asthma medication and they just deicded not to administer it :(

I would complain (actualy I would get DH to I'm no good at complaining)
They obviously didn't make a serious effort to contact you about it so I would say they just forgot. Not good when their job is to look after your child:thumbsdown:

Should they not have read the sticky label on the med and followed the pharmasists instructions like EVERY OTHER NORMAL HUMAN BEING! I would complain. The cheek of blaming you re not being able to contact!

 it just makes me so mad coz ds's asthma isnt under controll yet and all the triggers arent known. he started at this daycare on the 31st july and until this week he went there monday and tuesday and then stopped going those days and now only goes thursdays.
there is spots open at my ds's other centre (he has been at since 9.5months) on thursdays starting next week if they havent filled up yet lol i just cant belive the excuse i got from the room staff, when i told the receoptionest what i had been told she looked at me really confused and checked for my mobile number and said it was there and stuff.
i think i will talk to DP about and see what he says. coz i know if he was in the room he would have went off (he was waiting in the car outside lol)
and now i have to try and play catch up with ds's medicine :(

which would be better a phone call to the director, email or in person to complain?
i am at tafe all day tomorow and i think it would be better if i was present for a phone call or in person complaint as if dp did it by himself it would be 2nd hand info and they could turn around and use that agaisnt him or something.
its a real shame coz i am learning certificate 3 in childrens services and we just learnt a bit about the legal obligations today about medication forms.

Jess that is totally unacceptable, you are doing the right thing by putting in an official complaint!

If I was you, I would email the complaint to the director, that way you have a copy for yourself (to prove you sent it) and it's date/time stamped (to prove when you sent it). And complaints in writing always seem more "scary" to the person you're complaining to, IMO. I'd then follow it up with a conversation with the director.

You're studying certificate 3? Maybe one of your lecturers could give you some advice in this matter, they would understand the industry from the inside out.

i will ask my trainer tomorow about it see what they think
ironicly we are starting a unit called "repsonding to accidents and illnesses in children" lol

edited to add: just sent the email to the director. you know the feeling of dobbing someone in at school to the prinicapul (sp?) i feel like that lol

It may have been antibiotics this time...but it coudl be more serious if left ignored.thats what got me worried, i said in the email how could i trust that ds's asthma plan will be followed and his predmix would be given if his ventalin failed.

Jess I would complain both verbally and in writing. (that way the written complaint is then recorded in his file)

If I was you, I would be the one to complain as you were the one that dealt with the staff.

What they did was not right.... :shame:

i am glad i am not the only one who thinks it wasnt right. sometimes i think i make a big deal out of nothing or little things when i am a hormonal crazy preg lady lol

i dont know if has anything to do with daycare today or not but ds hasnt been himself since we picked him up this afternoon. he has spent the whole time sleeping pretty much. he hasnt had dinner yet coz he has been sleeping.

you're totally doing the right thing by complaining. This is your precious baby!! Lots of mummy cuddles are in order when DS wakes, it will make you both feel better. You can problem solve this and maintain relationships with the centre.

while i was at tafe yesturday the room leader of ds's room rang me up and aplogised and said that there had been a meeting with the director and the centre was now reviewing the whole medication administration and form filling in systems. so they are pretty hopeful it wont happen ever again to anyone :D
i am pretty happy. they even trained the staff of all rooms about ds's asthma plan coz they let kids go into other rooms at this centre and now there wont be a mad rush for a staff member who is familiar with ds's plan coz they all know it, even though ds sticks to his own room lol.
i also asked my trainer what she thought of the situation and she said i had doen the right thing by contacting the director and stuff :)she was pretty shocked at the reason i was given in the first place.

What happened was bad and potentially serious, but luckily it wasn't and good to see that you took action and the centre is rectifying the problem. :yelclap:

yeah the director said she could see why i was concened, she even said it could have been another child with life saving medication or something and their conditon got worse from an error like what happened to ds.
i felt like i had dobbed in the naughty kids to the princapul lol
they asked me how ds was and stuff and said thankfully hsi bronchitis hadnt come back coz i know with amoxil it can come back if u skip doses (i learnt that the hard way last time i had bronchitis lol)
