Hi there,
Does anyone else out there suffer from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)??
Unfortunately I do and when I came off the pill and got pregnant it disappeared which was bliss!!
Now, 6 months AB (after baby), it has come back and 3-4 nights a week I am in the toilet in total agony!
Would love to hear from anyone else who has this same problem!

Yeah someone who understands!!!!!!
I suffer from IBS too. I went on the contraception injections and they worked beautifully but i fell pregnant accidentally. But was fine during the pregnancy.
I have the same problem 8 months down the track at least 1-2 weeks before my period i have serious agony. What I noticed is that if i cut on:
* Raw onions - cooked onion is okay
* milk (its fine if its only a little bit) - soy milk is fine
* capsicum
Have you tried Minetec you can take while you are b/f and it works wonders for me.

I too have IBS. During pregnancy it was bliss. I was never constipated and never had any horrible IBS symptoms. I'm now almost 5 months post birth and its all come back in force. Its so bad that I have to really conscientiously watch what I eat.
I can no longer eat excessively greasy/oily foods without having a bout of IBS. I also try and limit my wheat intake as that can lead to symptoms. I am now back on the pill and no longer breastfeeding so I shall see how it goes.
I find that I do best on low fat/low wheat diet. I used to take Calcium Ascorbate to help and I will be purchasing some in the near future.
The first thing that's recommended is that you try an elimination diet to see what foodstuffs may be causing it. I know that if I have a deep fried meal I'm going to pay for it in a few hours time.

Interesting!
yes, my trigger foods have always been dairy, wheat and fried foods. I have been tested for coeliacs etc and had all sorts of biopsies but nothing! The gastroenterologist was stumped - last time I had it this bad I lost several kg so not such a bad think in losing the pregnancy weight gain! :D
Mintec and all those sort of tablets don't work but peppermint tea does help a bit. Last night I was in agony but served me right for finishing off the packet of chips I started the night before but I have never had potatoe chips trigger it before!!
Looks like back to a plain old diet for me and I will start on optislim next week anyway so hopefully there will be some improvement.
reassuring to know I am not the only one who ends up on the dunny in agony - almost worth getting pregant again??!!

I have suffered from IBS for about 7 years now. It first started when I found out I had the stomach bug Giardia (parasite that invades your intestines), which I got from drinking water. My stomach as never been the same since I got rid of Giardia and now suffer IBS all the time, especially if I eat certain foods eg. onions & mushrooms. I have learnt to live with it, it is not a bad as it was years ago, but it is gradually getting better.
have any of you girls had your gallbladder removed!!

I still have my gall bladder. Mine started when I hit puberty. I didn't realise what it was then and I thought it was perfectly normal. I don't know why we think that way when we're teenagers LOL.
My mother suffers from IBS but she's had her gall bladder removed. I just hope that I don't end up with gallstones like she did. I also had an irritable appendix that the Drs put down to IBS but they were wrong. I was on the operating table before they'd believe I had a problem with my appendix. I think a lot of this is due to the excessive amounts of processed foods we eat these days. I just have to modify my diet and remember that if I do eat something greasy that I'm going to pay for it.
