Bassinets

Just curiously, those who had a bassinet, how long until your little one grew out of it? or when did you stop using it?

We're trying to think about how long we have left with the little mite in ours and if we should get a port-a-cot for our room (too cold in his room at night) plus I'm curious as to how long bubbies generally stay in them :)

hmmm we have a cradle E is still in it but they say until 6 months for the cradle and 4 months for the bassinets, I guess it depends how big and mobile they are. :)

I had one in our room for the first 12 weeks.
Babies grow so fast and Gabrielle was starting to look a little big in it so we moved her to her cot once we got back from a holiday.

We had a cradle that O grew out of by 12 weeks. His hands would bash the sides of it. We didn't have one for A, we just use the cot with the snuggle bed in our room.

My baby is still in her bassinet in our room and she is 6 months old. I plan to move her when she is about 8-10 months old (or whenever she gets too big for the bassinet - whichever comes first) to a cot in her own room.

I found that my baby liked being swaddled or in a small cuddly area to sleep in so she didn't like the portacot. She only sleeps in the portacot at my parents place when we have cushions/pillows all around her (I know, SIDS horror!) but that's the only way she would sleep in a portacot.
Otherwise (when we were on holidays) she would only sleep in her pram. (I guess another small cushioned area)

Both my kids were too active to be in their bassinettes by 6 weeks. Glad ours was free otherwise it would have been a waste.

It was the night before my DD turned 5 months old we transfered her into a cot from her bassinet:thumbsup:

We has DS in his bassinet for about 3 months then he went into a cot in his room!

My DS stopped using his when he was around 4mths

James was 4months when he went into his big cot in his big room...:(
But I have to admit we all slept better and didnt have to whisper!

garrett was out of his bassinet by 3-4 weeks - but he is abnormally big for his age. He is in his cot, with a side off, up next to our bed, so its one big happy family there... We are moving him into his own room soon tho...

can you fit his cot in your room. its not really safe for the baby to sleep in the port-a-cot for long periods of time

DD stayed in our room in her bassinette for a week then she used it till bout 3/4 months, after that she could make it rocka little and every time her arms would touch the sides she would wake up so we moved her into a cot and she slept better cos I guess she liked all the extra room:D

DS was in his for the first 6 months, in our room.

Then in his cot in our room for 6 months, now finally in his own room!

DS didn't like the bassinet so he was in the cot at 6 weeks, still in our room tho. We moved the cot to his room when he was about 12 weeks old.

DD slept in the bassinet in our room til she was about 6mths old. We had no probs when she moved into the cot, which is in her own room. I just decided one day to pack up the bassinet and she has slept in the cot ever since :D
