My DD suffers bad wind/colic problems and it is affecting her sleep. She is on Nan Ha. I have tried all the different wind drops and none of them work, some made the problem worse. Has anyone changed formulas because of the same problem and found an improvement? If so, which formula? :fingerscrossed:

Yes I have changed for the same reasons... But I changed from S26 Gold to NAN HA 1 Gold  (and it has worked). So maybe ask your CHN or just try other formulas? It seems to depend each baby - my sister has fed all hers on Karicare AR (i think, it's for reflux) but my friends kids didn't do well on it at all, and they loved S26, as did my DD, but DS didn't!

As Kelli said each baby seems to respond differently. I took my baby off Nan HA as it gave him the worst constipation and stomach pain ever. I'm now using Karicare and have found that he is better on that, but we do still have some issues with wind.

we had to get a prescription for neocate formula from th dr as our bub reacted to Nan Ha and soy formula but he also suffered skin as well as gastro symptoms.

Our DS had reflux and severe wind issues. It took us months to figure out that he had reflux. It then took months for the reflux pain to reduce and then the wind became a problem.

We tried all sorts of remedies for his wind. The only one i found helpful was Infacol. But their bodies get used to it and become lazy- their bodies will then not learn to expell the wind. So you need to be careful how much you use and how regularly you use it.

So in the end we opted for changing formula in hope that it was the formula causing the wind. DS was having zantac for the reflux so our formula did not have to be for reflux babies. We were on Karicare and changed to Heinz formula. The best move we ever made.

If you do change formulas- there are 2 general rules.

1. Do it slowly over a period of days. So have one bottle with new formula a day for 3 days. Then add in another bottle with new formula for 3 days...and so on..until all the bottles are the new formula.

2. Then give it two weeks. Apparently it can take up to 2 weeks for the old formula to leave there system. I think it took DS about a month for ALL the symptoms to totally leave his body.

Good luck with it. All you can do is try a formula. There are a number of threads on Heinz formulas- mums saying that it's good formula for windy babies. I have to agree. It's a little cheaper than the other formulas too.

:hugs:

Hope it all works out for you.

We were on Nan HA Gold with top up feeds and I would recommend this as a formula, its the only one I know, but if you feel it is the formula I would definately have a look around. You may want to know that the HA is hypoallergenic and is a better one to have to reduce the risk of milk allergies now and later on, so if going onto a non HA product I would definately introduce it slowly to see if she is having a reaction.

I used a product called Marina Infant Mixture, it is homeopathic and it worked excellent with colic, I would give this a try and see how it goes.

Good luck, I hope that this colic is short lived.

I was also going to add, like one of the mums, that if the colic is persistant then it may actually be reflux you are dealing with, it is quite hard to tell the difference, the reason it makes me think that is that it is affecting her sleep. I have found that colic generally makes its presence known well in the afternoon, and is generally pretty good at all other times.

If you suspect reflux, try some infant gaviscon in the bottle, it will make it thick but it may help, the other is 3-5ml of mylanta given when she is cranky, if this helps it is a tell tale sign of reflux. If it works I would then see your Dr about it, you wouldnt want to be using mylanta without the info of a Dr for very long. It is not a long term treatment of reflux.

Hi my bub was born in feb, now 7mths old. Bub had colic / reflux for 5 long mths, so I know how you feel. I tried everything too. It got that back that bub was quite happy having about 60- 70mls of milk every 3-4hrs. It was like she hated the bottle.

It got to the point that I tried her on cow's milk the feed just before I took her to the dr. The dr said try anything. She said I could have tried her on cows milk 3 mths ago if she has been this bad.

So we started the cows milk and haven;t looked back. She loves her bottles has her mouth open waiting.

Hope this helps.

Hi all

In reply to some others, not all babies go thru this - my DD never spit up or vomited except when sick, although she later had "evening colic" from 3-5 months which disappeared as soon as it went and only lasted from 5-9pm every night.

Just spoke to my dr who said I could increase the losec from 1/2 tab a day to 1/2 tab morning and evening and also to try a lactose free formula.

Dummies help to calm Alex, again I never used it with Jess, so all babies are different.

I'll post back to let you know how the increased dose and change of formula work.

:hugs: to everyone as I know what you're going thru.
