So as the title says bubs is only doing 3 - 4 HEAVY nappies a day and his weight gain has slowne down to about 100g a week.

He's generally pretty content even though he doesn't sleep for longer than 40 minutes at a time, his pee isn't yellow or stinky.

bubs also leads the feeds and generally only feeds from one breast and very rarely feeding from the second.

he was feeding 2 hourly because of his sleep cycle but i'm now stretching him out to 3 hourly as it was torture on my nipples and he doesn't seem to mind most of the time.

should i be worried about the wet nappies? Is it ok his weight has slowed down?

How old is he? Generally weight slows down at a few stages, but a gain is a gain :)

He's nearly 14 weeks.

He's also a really sweaty bub - could he be sweating it out instead of peeing it?

I weighed him this morning and He's put on 300g this fortnight. Should i still worry about the pee?

Sounds fine to me. 300grams in a fortnight is good. What is his weight? I wouldn't be too concerned about the heavy nappy thing. None of mine ever reached that perfect number of heavy nappies. I've breastfed 5 babies. I did have feeding issues with this last baby, but it was very obvious in retrospect - at around 5 weeks she was still very small and had "skinny" legs. All good now. How would you describe your baby's appearance and overall behaviour? If you're at all concerned, just forget about stretching his feeds and feed him whenever he's fretful - even if it's only an hour since the last feed. Forget about timing it. The way I worked it out was if I was a native woman out in the bush and my baby was hungry, would I be looking at my watch and saying "well, she can't be hungry, she only fed 46 minutes ago?". I'm pretty sure those women just stuck the baby on the boob and got on with whatever they were doing. And just try him on the 2nd breast, keep switching - you'll see if he wants it or not. Also, don't forget an "empty" breast actually contains the fattier milk.
Good luck, he sounds just fine to me.

He's 5.7kg. He was 3kg at birth.

his behaviour is pretty good considering He's a catnapper. He's pretty laid back and alert until the tired signs kick in. He talks and smiles alot.

the only thing that concerns me is his skin has gotten dry on his face and one side seems to have rash. I just put it down to change in weather. His eyes are sparkly most of the time although they're a it dark underneath when he gets overtired or hasn't slept well.

another reason i was stretching him out was coz he has started fussing really badly at feeds and the chn told me not to feed him less than two hours and that's why he was fussing. I had previously been demand feeding and was quite happy to.

he also cluster feeds from 3.30 am and has been for 6 weeks. Is that normal? Will it change coz i am truly exhausted.

I wouldn't worry, 300g in two weeks is perfect :D

He's about the same age as my ds and weight gain overall is very similar. I let him demand feed all the time and I have a good supply, though I do add 1 formula feed of 150ml just before his bedtime of an evening... he sleeps great at night but only catnaps during the day.... I gives him that little extra that he wants and i dont have by the end of the day. I would keep demand feeding him, if he's hungry it cant hurt. I would also try a some formula just to see if it fills him better, but if you are scared of a slowdown in your supply just express the next feeds if he does sleep for longer. Have you ever expressed a full feed and seen if there is any fat in your bm? Some people can have none and that will make a difference to how full the bub feels after a feed.

Good luck with it all :)

I think he is fine Tusmama, try not to worry too much hunny :hugs:
All three of my babies were demand fed and my last two, fed 1-2 hourly alot of the time during the day right up until they were on solids when they dropped a feed or two.
THe weight gain is good, hun. I always say a gain is a gain, some weeks they will gain ALOT others they will gain the bare minimum, lots of factors come into this, for example if they have been sick they tend not to gain much that week or two.
300gms in a fortnight is about smack on what is "normal" for a BF bub, so I think he's doing fine and you are doing a great job feeding him:yes:

S is a small bub too, just over 5kgs, she only has about 4 wet nappies a day, probably lol I dont actully count :o
Also bf babies can tend to gain weight well in the first three - four months and then slow right down. Zeke gained well until 4months then almost came to a halt, he never lost weight but he never gained either, it had me so worried, but he was fine he was just active
and crawled early walked by 9months so he burned every calorie he ate hehe!

Oh and re the feeding only one boob, do you have quite good supply? I do and with all my bubs have only ever needed to offer one side per feed, even then they usually puke up the excess, and couldn't take the second boob:no:

Thanks lil x =)

i dunno about my supply, he rarely rarely takes the other boob, even when it's been hours between feeds so i assume my supply is ok.

i feel better now... Oxo
