I haven't been well since the birth of my son (c-section) 10 weeks ago. My white cell count and platelets were high a few weeks back but they've decreased so a lot of serious illnesses and cancer has been ruled out :yelclap: I am also no longer anemic :)....however....

I've had blood test after blood test, x-ray after x-ray and consultation after consultation. I've been tested for pretty much everything the doctors have thought of and all tests have come back clear. I was told to rid my diet of all Gluten though because of *SOME* of my symptoms and those *SOME* symptoms have improved greatly since I did that, however everything else has/is getting worse. I still feel horrible, everything hurts, I wake up with breathing problems and also experience it during the day which could be anxiety in my opinion, my memory is still terrible and yeah..I just don't feel right. My body literally feels like it's shutting down.

One of my doctors sent me off for yet another chest x-ray (the third in as many months to be precise) just to make extra sure my heart, lungs and chest are OK. He said that if the x-ray is clear, then he wants to have me tested for Fibromyalgia. Another doctor I saw (I see 4 different doctors at the same damn clinic because I can never see "JUST" one as they all work at different times) mentioned Fibromyalgia to me but said he didn't think I had it??!! I feel like I'm a football being passed around a bunch of confused drongoes. So anyway, I wasted my time in having another x-ray this morning and surprise surprise, it's clear, like I knew it bluddy well would be.

I have looked up Fibromyalgia tests and the only test available seems to be a tender point test...so why haven't they already done this?!

If anyone here was diagnosed with this illness can you please let me know how you were diagnosed, how long it took and if whatever treatment you are receiving is improving how you feel. I just need to know what's going on so I can fix it yet nobody seems to be able to give me any answers :gloomy:

Hey I might be completly off track but a friend was like this after her last child. She felt confused almost, had pains, trouble breathing - heaps of weird little symptons and a few of her levels were everywhere. She ended up collapsing when baby was 12 weeks old and spent quite some time in ICU. Simple reason was retained placenta which had cause some blood infection or something. SHe had had exrays and they missed it.

I suppose you probably have had this checked already but just thought it would be worth mentioning.

Thanks WCM :)

To be honest I don't expect a lot of replies for this but hopefully there'll be some...that's not to say I hope anyone here is suffering though! Everyone I've spoken to IRL about this has the response of "Fibro....what?" I don't expect it to be much different here.

Wow crazymumma - so glad your friend is OK now!!!

I will ask if that is a possibility when I go back to the doctor on Monday. Although I did have my 6 week check up with my ob and he said everything was fine. Is it likely to retain placenta after a c-section?

Not sure how likely it is but I know its definetly possible. Can't hurt to ask I suppose as sometimes even the best doctors make mistakes.

:hugs::hugs:

just wanted to say you arent alone. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and undiagnosed over and over depending on the doctor. there are pressur vpoints that can be used to check for the condition, but it isnt a definitive diagnosis. some doctors believe in the condition, others dont- you get handballed around and treated like crap-or a hypochondriac.

I was offered trycyclic antidepressants at low doses as they can help with the pain and fatigue- but the side effects were horrendous.

I recommend bowen therapy from a good registered practitioner- it helps minbimise the symptoms- i need a lot of rest and sleep- and my memory is really shot- but with careful eating, bowen therapy and rest i cope with most days. if a flareup is really bad i end up stuck in bed unable to hold down food, in pain, diarrhea, no control over my bodies temperature or anything and only days of rest fix it.

:hugs: hoping someone finds a definitive diagnostic tool for the condition and a valid and consistant treatment soon.

I was diagnosed with it about 5 years ago - after child birth I no longer have it anymore :) No symptoms at all!!

Fibromyalgia is basically a diagnosis of exclusion - so if you have been tested for everything else and everything is fine then thats what they come to. I didnt have any specific fibromyalgia test. My diagnosis did come from a professor in the area though - not a normal gp.

Good luck - I hope you get some answers soon. It can be very depilitating and I really didnt find anything that helped a great deal.
