MummyB I hope you don't mind me starting a new thread what we do at home?
rather then write back to your original question under day care...

We had a doll that come alive she is little like Pippi Lonstocking, she jumps on the bed she likes having her hair washed, a great play mate in the bath, she even likes to clean, take out the rubbish sometimes...
You can have so much fun with a doll you only need provide her with your voice and imagination...

We love to paint and draw, drawing only on paper is far too boring for Erik, he likes to draw in the bath tub with home made soup crayons and yes even my make up pens LOL..So easy to wash off..
We love to paint t shirts, drinking glasses, and we paint our glass doors with poster paint.. Sometimes I make home made finger paint, mix a table spoon with a little water in a cup, then add one cup a hot water stir it under heat for a while then add food colour.

Do you like baking at all? There are so many different things to bake.
We love to bake bread, cinnamon scrolls, ginger bread the list is long!!

I can understand not having your own back yard must be so hard, we spend heaps of time out side, tend to our blueberries, strawberries, our little vegi garden.
We have great time with shredded paper that will be composted after the play.
Just shredd news paper in to long bits with a ruler, a great to hid in, throw and crawl around in..

We just started a few week back to play "School", we have a doll, an elk and a horse and a teddy and Erik as pupils and I am the teacher. Of some strange reason the class room is located on the bed LOL.. we mainly talk about animals at this stage, we make pretend spider webs with our hands (in the air, one hand is the spider)and then we wait for an insect to be caught in the web then the spider can eats his dinner.
We also played sea gulls, it became a strange game we laid eggs LOL (me having natural childbirth pushing them eggs out was very hard, Erik couldn't stop laughing....Then waiting for the eggs to hatch was a little waiting game, then we looked for fish in the sea to feed the little chicks .. We had so much fun ..

There is much fun to be had at home, I love to hear what other mums like to do at home with their children!!

I love doing things at home too... homemade playdough, colouring-in, gardening, watering the plants (and children), digging in the sandpit, singing, dancing, playing shops and kitchens, dress-ups and even just sitting down together for a cuddle to watch tv sometimes. Sometimes we just lie in the back-yard and watch the leaves in the trees and the clouds in the sky. Nothing has to cost money, unless you want it to.

I've seen people without much room use rice in a clam-shell type sand pit. It's a bit easier to clean up and doesn't normally get in-bedded in your carpet. If you want to colour it to make it extra nice, get a plastic bag, a couple drops of food colouring, put in the rice, shake it around then tip ointo a tray and lie it in the sun to dry.

Hi, with little ones its always important to have lots of fun, free things to do! we love making playdough, not only is it fun making it, but you can play with it for hrs afterwards! we also love to bake, thomas still loves baking with me and is just getting interested in learning the finer arts of cooking some basic dinners etc, coops has just started to love to 'help' :) so he helps mummy put the washing in the machine and passes it to mummy so i can hang it on the line, and pours the ingredients into the bowl when we bake and he is very good at helping to vacuum. He has just started to become interested in painting and drawing and doing craft, we love scrunching on crunchy leaves and looking at all the colours and then sticking them to some paper. if you have a trampoline, my kids love it when we put some blankets on every side and secure them with pegs and we have a lovely airy outdoor cubby. thomas and i play hang man in there or read and cooper likes to have tea parties in there. we collect lemons off our neighbours tree and attempt to make lemonade, although im afraid our results are always pretty ycky, so cute though cooper always says 'mm' and nods his little head like its really delicious or something lol. he is getting very good at kicking a ball and is also starting to understand hide and seek(sort of) he loves to ride his little bike and tilly loves to sit on her blanket in the sun with her toys and laugh at him. Putting music on and spinning around and dancing til we are very puffed is always popular as are helping our next door neighbour in the garden (this lovely old man and cooper share some sort of bond i think :) ) we have also just started our own vegie garden and eventually we plan to give each of the kids their own little patch to maintain. and for quiet time you cant go past stories and blocks or puzzles (cooper also loves lyeing in the floor playing with his cars :) )
looking forward to reading more about what mums and their little ones do when they are at home
