DS is a fussy child to say the least. No matter what we've tried, the only way to get him to sleep is in my bed after a breastfeed, which has to be done laying down.

I put him down to sleep this evening and an hour later, I heard a cry (not a pain cry). I ran in and he was sitting on the floor crying :crying:

Luckily I had pillows on the carpet for a "what if" scenario which protected him but still rang the nurse to see what we should do - keep an eye out for clear discharges, bleeding, bruising, see if he stops eating and to wake him every couple of hours for the next 24 hours. I'm pretty shaken up. He seems OK and was happy and cheery after the incident. My bed isn't high up, we have carpets and he was protected by pillows and he landed sitting up, so his big fat bottom protected him.

Do bed rails work well for this age? Is there anyway I can transition him to the cot? DF can't find the alan key to disassemble the cot to move it to our room, so I have no idea how to even get DS to sleep without a nurse.

I really need help

Sounds like you need to buy a set of allen keys in the next few days heh that way if he has his cot pushed up against your bed then he is safer. This may also help with a transition to his cot at a later stage. But trying a bed rail couldnt hurt as another option.
I wouldnt worry about moving him into his cot alone permanently just yet unless its something you want to do as id imagine he is still feeding through the nite so would mean getting up & down for both of you.
Just find something that works for all of you.
Good luck :)

im not sure if this would work but wat about two bedrails on the one side, it mite make it so there is no gap where he can fall

these things happen to the best of mummas (yes it's happenned in my house:rolleyes: ). i can stilll remember feeling awful when it happenned with my toddles when she was small and recently my bubs shimmied out of bed onto the *padding* i had on the floor and managed to sleep through the whole thing:p .( i woke up )i still felt awful though.

i like the cot next to the bed idea and the bed rails. i have dd on her own matress on the floor somenights (actually it's like two matresses thick, not right on the floor but not high enough that she'll hurt if she rolls off-still stick a pillow next to it!) and i go to her for lying down feeds. it's not ideal because she is not confined like a cot and that can have it's own issues, but it works ok for me on the nights i want my own space in bed. of course it also means i spend some nights sharing her bed...:D

Childcare brand has an extra long bed rail available - so long that there's only room for a little body to wriggle out right down at the end. I have 2 - they cost about $50 - purchased from Babyco, but I'm sure most baby stores would be able to order them in for you. Worth every cent for the peace of mind they bring.
