Hi, not sure if I'm posting this in the right section??
My DD will be 20 months old when our new baby is born in a couple of months. I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips about how to prepare her for our new arrival?
At the moment she lifts up my top and kisses my belly and says "baby" because we say the baby is in my tummy. BUT, she also lifts up her top and points to her tummy and says "baby"... so I'm not sure she's quite come to grips with it!!

I've heard that you can make sure you're not holding the new baby when your toddler first comes to visit you in the hospital so you can be ready to give them a cuddle. We're having c/s which means I cant lift her up for a while, not sure how long though? Does anyone know?

Was thinking of getting some books about a new baby arriving as she loves her books and being as she's 18 months old now she's starting to understand what goes on in them (I think?!).

Any advice or tips greatly appreciated.

HI!

Ours bubs are the same gap apart. I just kept on telling him that our new baby would be coming to live with us soon. The adjustment was surpriseingly easy. I think if he was a bit older it may have been harder. I also made sure that I gave him lots of attention when we came home from the hospital.

DS1 was 15mths old when DD was born. I tried to get him involved in the whole feeling kicks and hiccups thing and I told him there was a new baby coming, but he really didn't understand.

The first time he came to hospital, he held her and gave her kisses and cuddles. The whole coming home thing was easy, he loved helping out by bringing me nappies, wipes, bibs etc. Him helping out was the big thing, he loved it. Might work for your daughter too.

I've heard that having a present from the baby to their big brother or sister works lots too.

My 3 yr old step son does this and he tells us that his baby is coming to live with us and will come out his belly button. LOL

We told DSS that he was going to be a big brother and it was an extra special job because little babies cant do anything for themselves. We keep telling him how grown up he is and how he can help us make the baby grow up like him.

Not sure if it works as its hard when his mum calls him her little baby. I suppouse its all aged related to.

Goodluck We only have 6 weeks to go. I cant wait to spend a week with DSS and our new baby.
