I made a post a few days ago about attempting to use homemade wipes...anyway I am just wondering is there anything special you have to do, like for the solution or can you just use plain warm water? If you use recipes I would want a simple and easy one please :fingerscrossed:

Just plain old water works fine. I tended to use demineralised water (ironing water) though as it dosn't go off as quickly as normal tap water does.
If you are after a solution to use though I liked to just add a chammomile tea bag to the water and it was really soothing for bubs bottom. However by adding to the water the shelf life of the water is greatly reduced.

so should I put the wipes into my old huggies container and add water into that? or should i wet the wipes as i go? sorry for sounding dumb here lol.. i just would think they would start to smell up after a while...also if i was going to use cammomile tea, do i put the teabag into a mug and make it up in that and then pour it over the wipes? lol now i really sound dumb huh...sorry:o

I would wet the wipes as you go! If you use chammomile just add that to the water and then wet the wipes with the solution before changing.
You can also add honey to the solution too which can help fix nappy rash. I wouldn't be bothered using it in every solution though.;)

I didn't know about chammomile either... What is it for? And do you just make tea and then let it cool?
I make up cammomile tea in the old wipes container every morning, i just put the bag in the container and leave it awhile then add about 10 facewashers which last about a day or soemtimes two then give the container a shake and stick it next to the nappies. Easy! Sometimes i add some olive oil too or some baby bath stuff. If i run out of tea then water is fine.

Ok...another silly question.....
How much water should I pour in?:o
And should I just use one chammomile tea bag per container of wipes?
i use one teabag and enough water so they are damp (depends how many wipes you are adding)

I just put water into an empty soap on tap dispenser bottle and change the water regularly. I squirt water onto a facewasher as needed.
Just another idea for the actual wipes.. i just cut up fleece into 7x7 inch squares and they fit great in the huggies wipe containers!! I don't bother sewing the edges,a dn it doesn't seem to fray. It's so cheap too!!! I also put a sponge in the bottom, to soak up excess water.
Thanks for the tip on the chammomile tea bag!!!! Will be getting a pack tomorrow!!!!!!
dsthal- doesn't the fleece repel water and not soak up any of the liquid and make it hard to clean up poo with...just wondering?
Thats a good point!!!!!
It doesn't, but that would explain why i have to use a ton of liquid to get them wet!!! lol !!!! I'm a moron.
I also have 7x7 flannilette(sp?) i imagine that would work better????
BUT in saying that, the fleece has been working well for the past two weeks!!!!
I could always use the fleece that i have cut for nappies?!!!!!
OF course youre not! I was wondering because i have fleece covers and the liquid rolls off them so i was wondering how you could use it as wipes. Flannette would be good but it will fray if you dont hem the edges. The best is flannelette one side and terry the other.
I have heard that chux wipes work well too.
I think I will give this home made wipes thing a go:thumbsup:  . We go through a tonne of wipes.
