View Full Version : what size house do you have
for those with more than 4 kids with both teenagers and toddlers, where do you fit everyone? Who has their own room? who has to share?
What are you living areas like?
We currently have a 5x2, but two rooms are unusable as bedrooms, ones a clothes room (that has built in benches all the way around and a bed wouldnt fit) , the other is a junk room (as its got a musty smell to it, I wouldnt let the kids sleep in there!!) then we have a big games room, dining room, family room, meals area, and lounge, so for the 8 of us, we arent under everyones feet. The bedrooms are large, so 4 boys share one (2 sets of bunks) the eldest has his own room with double bed, desk, drums, and DD is in with us
BUT... we are renting and have to move, and finding anything this large at the same price, is impossible!!! as rents gone up so much in the last 12 months..
So yeah, was just wondering, where do you fit everyone, are you all under each others feet, how does it work? the few houses we have looked at, the bedrooms are small, two sets of bunks would only have like 30cm between them, and a double bed would just fit!
our kids are 14(b) 10(b) 8(b) 5x2(twin boys) 2(g)
I don't have teenagers but I will have 4 children by September. We currently live in a 3x1. Our house is lovely and has two great living areas but not enough personal space. I'm big on everybody needing their own space. We are going to add a second story to our house to make it a 6x2 with two living areas downstairs and a theatre room and a study upstairs.
I haven't been worried while the girls are young but as they get older I really want them to have their privacy and their own little haven away from the world when needed! You know what young girls can be like!
Good luck in finding the perfect house!

atm we have a 3bdr house :banghead: the two boys are in one bedroom, the baby with us in her basinette and calista has her own room
The lounge room is very tiny which is driving me nuts and the kitchen is also small but i love the stainless steal appliances and new cupboards. Our bathroom is quiet small.. infact the shower is tiny too.. dunno how DH fits in at times as he is pretty solid. The backyard is massive :banghead: which means more mowing Grrrrrr !!! vent vent vent.. thanx !!
We are in the procees of waiting for the builders to start on our house now that our loan has been approved and the forms are signed. I need the larger living space with 4 bedrooms and a study. Oh and a slightly smaller backyard. I can't wait :smiliedance:
i only have 3 kids, but i can empathise with the challenge of trying to find enough space for everyone. rental prices are really high.
this house is small, was 2bedrooms, now we have modified a verandah for me to have a room:o . the 2 youngest share my eldest dd is 9 so we decided she was most in need of her own room. in fact i would love to have more children, but i have no where to put them:p .
i am hoarding every penny in the hope that one day we will be financial enough to build our dream home.
we have 3br house and we bought carvan dh has ripped out the guts and the ds1 and ds2 will use it as a br when we remodle it every one else shares till its ready then dd will get her own room again its all we can do for the moment as we are saving to own our own home
We currently live in a 3 bedroom house. DP, DS2 and I share a room. DD1 & DS1 share a room and DD2 & DD3 share a room. It is very squishy as the bedrooms are small. When Glen's girls come down it is worse.
In the loungroom we have 2x3 seater lounges, 2 computer desks with 1 computer(mine) and a laptop(his). We need a bigger house to fit us in properly and so we can move the office out of the loungeroom. DP has paper work everywhere and DS1 loves to get into it.

We will soon have 4 kids and we live in a 3 bedroom house that is 12 squares in size. The kids rooms are 2.1 by 2.8m in size, but they also have built in robes in there which takes up a ton of room.
We really need something bigger, but we can't afford to buy or sell right now.

I grew up in a family of 6.
At first, while we waited for our big house to be built, we lived in a 3 bedroom home... very small... quite cramped... but we were only young, so it didnt matter to us :) We had my brother and sister in one room, me and my other sister in another room and my parents in their own room.
Then we moved into our built home... which had 6 bedrooms... so we all had our own room + the study and 2 really large living areas. I think if you can afford a bigger house, then its a really good thing, its so much better having your own private space.
But, when my parents built our home, almost 9 years ago, it was so cheap! The land was only $50,000... now for blocks in our area its $120,000+ It ended up costing them around $300,000-$350,000 for the block + building costs. Now its worth around $650,000  Hmm how times have changed....
Anyways lol :ecomcity:

We currently live with my dad while our house is being built which is a 3X2 ...talk about squishy!!
Dad has his own room and bathroom
DP and DD1 are in 'my room'
DS and DSS are in there room
DD2 and I are currently sleeping in the lounge until she sleeps through (or the house is finished whichever comes first) and we move back int the bedroom with DP and DD1
its squishy but manageable!
We are moving into a 4X2 and will have the two girls in one room, the two boys in another and the 'spare' room is going to be a study/clothes/guest room but we also have a rumpus for the kids to play then as well as our lounge and then study type room at the front of the house..... atm we have our computers in the dining room as well as baby clothes and anything else that doesnt fit in other places... and we have a chest of drawers in the loungeroom as well as theres no where else to put it.... honestly... 2 bedrooms and 6 people - it doesnt work!!
