View Full Version : Well we are doing it....
Hi all,
DH has put his d's in and in 4-6 months we'll be leaving! A few mixed emotions at the moment but mostly excited. I am still struggling to deal with the fact that we will be paying a week what we do a fortnight in rent (if not more) but its time for him to do something else. He has done nothing but the army since he was 17!
Anyway just wanted to share, if anyone has any tips on how wives dealt with this massive transition please pass on info!
It is still crazy a week ago he was getting ready for deployment now he is getting ready for civvie life!
I have no advice, as DH is still in the army, I just wanted to wish you all the best :goodvibes: DH has expressed his desire to discharge within 5 years, and I can imagine it will be a massive transition if/when the time comes.

Sorry I have no advice either, just wanted to send big :hugs: and wish you the best of luck.
Thanks ladies, for the last 2 years he has been wanting to and then he doesn't. Then he wants to and then doesn't and now he is just keen to get out and try something new! He hasn't ruled out a return in the future but for now needs something different.
Thanks for the good luck wishes, we are looking forward to settling in Perth!

No advice from me either but all the very best with your future endevours. xxxxx:goodvibes:
Hi there,
DH has been in the Navy for 20yrs and I've been with him for 17 of those years.
He keeps threatening he'll discharge if he's not promoted .. he's been the same rank for like 7 or more years .. he wants to further his career cos doing the same thing gets a little old. So each time he threatens to discharge I think .. 'how will we cope, I will be on my own without a 'community' lol .. without that 'ADF connection. I then think of rent, bills and the insecurities.
I wish you the best. It might not be the right path or it might. Even so he could always do reserves or be civvy working for Defence.
If my DH got out there are many companies who are contracted by Defence that he could work for.
I have to remember that before the ADF, I managed alright in the big world but I was also single with no kids or pets .. so it's a big difference to 3 cats, 1 dog and 3 kids that we have now.
All the best.
