My poor baby is not well. He spent basically all day yesterday crying and most of the day before. I took him to my gp yesterday and he told me there was nothing wrong with him but a runny nose. When I got home I told DP that if he wasn't any better soon and didn't stop crying that I was going to take him to A&E.

Well we ended up at the hospital. They checked him over from head to toe and they found out that he has that viral flu that is going around. Cause he is so young they couldn't give him anything but panadol. They told me if he gets worse or dehydrated that I have to take him back and they will admit him and give him antibiotics.

This morning when he woke up he was crying and I could only just hear him. He has lost his voice. I felt so sorry for him. DP and I took it in turns trying to calm him down and get him to have his bottle. I was nearly crying cause I could tell how much pain he was is.

At the moment he is asleep. He is very snuffly and his cough sounds very phlemy. I am hoping he doesn't get any worse. He hasn't had his needles yet either.

Hopefully he is over the worst of it.

Sorry to hear that :( . Get some Karvol from the chemist - it is campher and eucalyptus and you just squeeze the little caplet out onto a hanky and put it in the corner of the cot/cradle not on bub but near. It was the only thing that helped when DS got a bad cold around the same age and couldn't beathe enough to feed. When feeding I pinned the hankie to my shoulder. You can also get plug in waterless vaporisers from the chemist (cost about $10) and that will give a constant eucalyptus smell in the room to try to clear the nose.
Hope this helps:fingerscrossed: .

I am getting a vaporiser this afternoon off one of my friends.

I will have to go to the chemist and get some of those capsules. Anything to help him breath. At the moment I am putting a drop of saline solution in his nose every couple of hours.

Breastmilk (if you are bf'ing) works a treat up the nose too. Also have you got one of those snott suckers (sorry no idea what they are called), they help to clear bubs nose. You could also try elevating bubs mattress to help with breathing. Also turn the shower on hot and take bub into the steamy bathroom. Good luck, it is horrible when they are sick, especially so little.

I had to give up bf when he was 3 weeks old. I think I will just use my hug-a-bub that way I know he is still breathing. I didn't get much sleep last night as whenever his nose cleared I would wake up as I couldn't hear him breathing. I am a really light sleeper. I have to be with the 5 kids spread through the house. Also to make things worse DS1 has it too. He spat the demazin at me this morning the little bugger.

He still any better. DP & I have just spent the last 30 mins pacing the floor trying to stop him from crying. His throat must be so sore now.

I went to the chemist and got the karvol. They didn't have any of the vaporisors. Hopefully this will help him

instead of a vapouriser you can let the shower run to steam up the bathroom
