Hi all

I just wanted to find out if anyone has been offered the unique experience of having their own mothers deliver their baby. I was ready to push DD2 out and the midwife that was there asked my DP if he wanted to help deliver the baby, I suppose cos things were going so smoothly, he's a bit squimish and said no, which i totally expected, and then she offered it to my mum..... with a little time for it to sink in she gladly accepted with my approval, she was able to hold onto our daughters head and help her out, it was soooo amazing for us as mother and daughter, and she said it was the most amazing experience ever. Of course she was bawling her eyes out the entire time but thats just mum for you..........anyway I wasn't thinking too much of it at the time, and afterwards thought it was not the usual thing to do? well I had never known anyone to do it, and they certainly didn't discuss anything like that with me through out the pregnancy..... needless to say it was a great experience... but dunno if it will happen again..... has anyone else had this happen????

Wow that sounds like you had an amazing experience. I personally wouldn't like my mum in the room. I wish my DH was asked if he wanted to deliver, he wasn't given the opportunity even though I have a very easy birth.

Next time I'd love to have a home water birth and let my DF deliver the baby. He only got to watch on this time and he loved every minute of it. My mum was also there to watch.

It sounds like you had an amazing experience!

I think that's so special for you and your mum. My mum & I are really close and she's hoping that she can be in the delivery room as well, but I haven't made up my mind about that yet. DH has said that he doesn't want to deliver bubby, he'd rather be up there with me, so maybe if my mum is there, she might end up delivering bubby.

jodi - well i would recommend it to anyone, but you do what you feel you want to and what is comfortable for you, every birth is different and special it should be what you and DH want .. as much as it can be ....!!!

karizma - now that i think about it she is quite close with mum, whenever she calls i put her on the speakerphone and kaitlyn will sit so quietly just listening to her grandma .. its so sweet ... she lives 500km away so we try to visit as much as possible...

That must of been so amazing for both of you. What a great thing for your mum to be able to do. My MIL was in the room when I had DS1 and when the midwife said that DH and MIL could go down to see the head crowning they both rushed down and seen it all. It was one push and DS1 was out. But even that was something really special to share so I can only imagine how special it was to have your own mum deliver the bub.
