Hi,my six month old is still having a breastfeed every 2hrs during the day and two in the night.Shes on solids aswell,3-4 meals and eats a really good amount.Ive tried stretching her feeds out with water, but she still wants boob every couple of hours.Shes a really fat baby and im a bit worried she might be overfed. Also im a bit exausted as i feel like all i do is feed!
How much does your bub feed? Any tips for cutting down the feeds much appreciated!

Sounds normal to me :) Remember - food before 1 is just for fun - for experimentation and texture and taste. Not really for nutritional value. The main bulk of a baby's nutritional needs are met by milk up to at LEAST their 1st birthday (and usually beyond).

So, my advice would be to go with it :) She'll cut back in her own good time! :)

I have to agree, sounds normal. Mine is the same (though she's not on 3 solid meals).

Does she still feed as much at the shops etc?

Sounds like your gorgeous girl is thriving. Babies do feed a lot (and some toddlers do as well)...if you are demand feeding, it can be demanding (sorry, pun)...breastfed babies rarely overfeed..they have growth spurts which can make you feel totally consumed, or teething, when the rate of feeds increases.
Sounds like you are doing fantastically!

Hi again, well atleast shes normal!! She takes her solid food seriously aswell,if i try to just BF her she goes nuts. I can honestly say she,d eat as much if not more than my 5yr old!
It seems like alot to me as he never ate much till he was about 2. No she doesnt BF much at all in public,to much else going on!!
Maybee its cause i gorged when i was preggo and drunk at least a litre of full fat jersy milk a day,she came out fat!!

Yeah my DS ate way more at 9 mths than he does now at 20 mths. I've heard others say similar.

If she isn't eating as much at the shops she prob is *capable* of going longer between feeds... just depends on whether you want to follow her lead or stretch her (by keeping her busy).

Is she taking both breasts at each feed or usually only the one? My bub was the same (but would only take 1 breast, so was snacking) and around 6 mths she started taking 2 and that helped cut her feeds down to about 6times day.
She only feeds 3 times in the day and 3 times at night now (which I've been told is still a lot for a 9mth old, but it works for us).

I can understand that you would be feeling exhausted :hugs: :hugs:with a baby and a five year old, broken sleep and feeding every two hours!

I also think she might be snacking, therefore the two hourly feeds could be stretched (keep her busy) this should hopefully increase the amount of milk she takes from the breast, and help her go longer between feeds.

It has to work for both of you :hugs:

I think she might be snacking! She normally only has one at a time and bites me if i try to give the other one,ow!! Hopefully they stretch out soon.
I think being tired is just part of the deal with kids,i just have to remember how fast this time will go and enjoy all the goodstuff.
Thanks everyone:wave:

My 14 month old still nurses pretty much non-stop... Yeah, it's perfectly normal.

Keep up the great work! :)

Jasper ate crazy amounts of solids when he was 6 months old too!

My mum :ecomcity: ed at me about over feeding him with solids and childhood obesity, but I just fed him until he didn't want anymore solids.

And demand fed when he wanted to breast feed.

I found though, somewhere between 10-12 months he wanted half as much solids and then also it seemed to satisfy him longer. And his poos seemed to be more... errrrm.... pooey.

Because I thought at 6 months when he was having like puree pumpkin, what came out the other end smelled just like pumpkin. So I wondered if he was eating so much because his body wasn't actually using it, if that makes any sense?

And when his body started digesting his food properly, then he seemed more satisfied.

BUT Jasper does have a suck-to-sleep association, so at 17 months he wants to sleep on the boob for his nap and over night :hair:

So no advice on how to cut down feeds really.

Yep sounds like your doing a fantastic job :) My 17mth old feeds every 2hrs during the day and at least 3 times over night (thank god for co-sleeping), until recently my 2 year old was feeding almost as much, and yes my 17mth old eats a lot more then my 2 year old!

My dd is 12months and would feed AT LEAST that many times a day and that doesn't count the night time feeds  ok maybe not that much but close to it.
Sounds completely normal to me. You can't over feed a breast fed baby ;)
