View Full Version : The science behind co-sleeping
I went to a research presentation today by Prof A Lewis whose main area of interest surrounds infant attachment. Anyhoo, I had a chat to him afterward about his opinion on co-sleeping vs CC and he recommended I look into James McKenna's work. Here is a link to Dr McKenna's site for anyone interested in the benefits of co-sleeping. Needless to say Prof Lewis and his wife co-sleep with their two daughters :D

I have just logged on in doubt of my co-sleeping situation, feeling that the world was against me after a nurse at my 1 year olds assessment yesterday made me feel like I was making life harder for my little girl by co-sleeping andbreastfeeling her to sleep. She said she would never learn to sleep by herself and I need to get her into a cot now.
I felt lost and confused, how do I move a toddler into a cot when she has never been into one? I felt a terrible amount of responsibility for the stress this would cause her.
Thank you for posting the link, its been a big help!
ds co-sleeps and im wondering at what age should u move them into normal beds??
I think im going to by-pass the cot completely and get rid of it, but i couldnt find an appropriate age of which to move him into a toddler or single bed or do i rely on him to tell me...
i think he is just about ready to move into a toddler bed which will allows him a bit of freedom to come into mummy and daddy's (if he wants) bed until he's comfortable being on his own.

From everything I have read, they can safely sleep in their own bed from around 2 years old. Though my sister moved her little girl from a cot into a little bed at 16 months, her littlle girl never rolled out or had any probs...
I'm with you, I have a cot but its all in pieces in a spare room lol, I was going to maybe use it as a transition bed by taking a side off it and levelling it to our bed height, like an extension of the bed... but I am still liking the cuddles too much.

I coslept with all mine but at about 2 they slept mostly in their own beds mainly because a new one moved in but we still had the occasional sleep over but if your into it it is welcome, I actually think it makes them better adjusted.
