hi all,

i went to the doctor yesterday because i just haven't been dealing with everything too well. not so much with being pg but going to work and being so tired all the time, the asked if i could possibly take time off work? i will have only been at my job 3 months on the 23rd of august which means my probation period isn't up yet and i feel i need to stop working not just take time off.

i guess what i want to know is has anyone else been through the same thing and did you get a letter from you doctor to give to your employer? also did you get any benefits from centrelink and did you have a letter for them saying that you couldn't look for work coz you were pg?

i'm just a little scared of letting my employer down and whats going to happen when i stop working but as someone on here said to me i need to listen to my body.

I had only been at my job about 6 mths when I had to leave because I was pregnant. I felt so bad that I was leaving them in the lurch because they were all such nice people. You dont have to give them a letter from your doctor but I think it helps when you do as they can see that there is more to it then just you wanting to leave for being pregnant by resigning. If you do leave. You can get benefits from centrelink. I left about 6 weeks before I was due.

What you need to do is once you stop working you need to get a Termination Certificate from your employer. They know what they are. You then need to go to your doctor and get a special form for centrelink filled out. Its like a centerlink medical certificate basically. Most doctors should have like a big pad of them, well mine did anyways. Then you head into centrelink and you apply for Newstart Allowance but its a special one called Incapacitated Newstart. Which basically means your unable to look for work because of being pregnant. When you go into centrelink just make sure you take bank statements, plenty of ID, the termination cert. the doctors cert. anything else you think you will need because they want copies of it all. The income is just over $400 a fortnight I think. If you have any other questions feel free to pm or chat on msn or yahoo .

I would be ringing centrelink first and seeing if this is available to you. My friend was in the same situation and she was told by centrelink Newstart was only availble to her 6 weeks before EDD. Maybe there are some sort of sickness benefit?? If you cannot work due to sickness. It is also income tested and deopending on your partners income your benefit may not be 400.00 per fortnight

Take care I hope you are feeling better soon

As far as I know centrelink doesnt have a sickness benefit .. but maybe talk to them about what kind of informaiton you would need from your doctor. IM sure if the circumstances warrant you not working that you could do something with centrelink. And yep . .it is income tested. I didnt have a worry on that because it was only me.

I'm also pretty sure that you would only be excluded from looking for work if you are close to your due date.

I think I'd double check too before you do anything drastic - it will be even more stressful having to look for a new job when you're pregnant.

just a quick pop in as far as centrelink is concerned medical certificates which say you have a pregnancy related issue are accepted, mine has been but then i have been having lots of complications, more than being tired.

hi,
i left my job at 3 months pregnent as i had finsished my traineeship and they made me look for work up untill i had 6 weeks to go, it was so upseting not to metion givin employers the run around i got so many calls for interviews and i had to go and they would just stare at me like they were thinking you have to be kidding :( i couldn't exactly hide it my big bump) Im also an honest person, i was sick for the first 6 months with morning sickness :( and i slept all day everyday i was lucky i finsihed only 3 months preg, i had a few days off but i never told them why. Im not sure about centrelink though if your unable to work due to ill health, but id go in and see your local office and get advice before you leave your job. Good Luck and i hope you feel better soon. anyway thats my story
