I think the the name is molluscum contagiosum. Was it a GP or a paediatrician? If it was a GP I'd get a second opinion but you would probably have better luck getting into a paediatrician who should be able to tell you just as well as a skin specialist, as I know it is not uncommon in children (so a paediatrician will have seen it) but I didn't know babies could get it.

My nephew and a friends daughter have both had them.

They can be itchy, are unsightly and can hang around for up to 12 months and yes, babies can get them! I think that they are caused by a virus and it just has to work it's way out of bub's system and there is nothing you can do about them in the mean time.

They are pretty common and really nothing to worry about ... just another childhood thing that can pop up when you least expect it!

If you want to know for sure, then a trip to a paed or skin clinic would be your best bet.
