It's a mother who couldn't cope with their autistic son and she killed him. :(

The interview with her was one small part of a program about 'Understanding Autism'. It was a painful program to watch and both my husband and I were were resolved to sobbing towards the end of it.

Some people are true heroes. These parents and children/adults with autism are amazing.

I do not agree with her killing her son and I did not realise tonight that it was intended to be a murder suicide, but after watching that program and hearing the majority of parents in this case say they understood and had felt the same at some stage, then I know that no one can judge till we walk in the shoes of others. I felt sick even looking at her but will never be able to comprehend her pain.

Kate, when you messaged me telling me about it I thought it was a positive story.... I don't want to watch the repeats now:no:
I know the story, yes it's the one from a few years back.

Having a child with special needs myself, I know the chalanges, and as hard as they are I would NEVER want my child out of my life let alone DEAD!!! I still hate the system for not sending the woman to gaol. It is disgusting! If this was any other child she would have had a LOOONG sentence, but nooooo, because her child had autism she gets away with it!!! **** me! if you can't handle it then there are PLENTY of ppl out there who can! Yes it gets extremely exhausting alot of the time but our children are our FLESH AND BLOOD! And they deserve at the very least a chance at life! When the case went to court I wished so badly that I could've been there on the day, I would have put up such a protest for that boy's life. I hope she rots in hell. Harsh I know, but she MURDERED an innocent child!!! Is there a worse sin??!?!?!? :crying:

Sorry Kriso. It was a very sad and heart wrenching program and although there was the very provoking interview with that woman, it was positive in that is really was aiming to raise awareness about autism and the lack of support systems for families with children with all forms of special needs. The show wasn't just about her - her interview only went for about 5 minutes. some very positive experiences were shared.

OK Kate, I might tape it and watch it on a 'nice' day (yunno, a day when I'm not just about to rip off someone's head for saying yet another stupid thing about disabilities...:o )

I agree that the mother has raised awareness within the community for the need for support for parents of children with autism. Maybe her daughter could donate the fee from their interview from Woman's Day this week to help raise awareness?

No-one ever said to me that becoming a mother was going to be easy. No child is easy and all children have special needs. I am fully aware of the support networks in my rural community to support all parents; why didn't this mother reach out and get help in her community? She had the responsibility of raising her children, but opted for murdering one child then trying to kill herself. Depression can cloud one's judgement and stop someone seeking help however:

- Don't then do a joint interview to a woman's rag detailing her son's death (murder) and state, "I consider myself a good mother."
- Don't do an interview with a woman's rag under the guise of the interview being with your daughter (I don't think the magazine pays criminals for their story?).

What frustrates me is that every year there is more and more support and acceptance for parents with children with special needs, especially women (and awareness and understanding of depression in all walks of life) yet this woman chose to take her child's life instead of seeking the support that is so readily available.

Apologies for the rant - that interview in Woman's Day has infuriated me.
