And how personal are the questions on the census? I understand they want a snapshot of the population but why then do they need the names and addresses of employers, etc. Couldn't they just ask for the industry, city and state? I feel a bit vulnerable putting so much information into one document. Particularly when they ask you for your address 1 and 5 years ago, anyone could use that information to steal your identity! I may sound paranoid I know, but does anyone else think it gets a bit personal?

just finished mine on the net... when i got to that question i looked in the help section and it says to write in the other section "not able to speak"
wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be :D
We didn't get the forms for the census so now what?? Their phone has been engaged and I can't do it online wothout the number/code from the paper one that should have been sent out??
so what do they do if you don't fill one in???
OMG I just had a thought is it like the tax packs, was I ment to pick one up from somewhere??
no, they drop it out to you. and it says on the front that if its not done you can be fined up to 100 dollars a day of not co-operating.
but in your case its not your fault. just contact them, u should be fine.

I think you have a while to do it...
They just like people to do it on the one night.
Just try the line tomorrow and fill it out later.
Edit: Yeah sorry its compulsory, lol.

One should have been delivered to your house if not just keep trying the phone number you have being that tonite is the nite many people will be calling with questions etc.
You can get fined from memory where i read it said $100 for every day its overdue or something i could be wrong.
Hopefully you can get through & speak with someone soon good luck !

On Sunrise this morning they said to just ring them and they will give you one.
I'm pretty sure that you can do this any time in the next couple of days.
:banghead: I WOULD CO-OPERATE IF THEY SENT ME ONE:laughing:
ah well guess will just have to keep ringing them then, thanks ladies
(although I feel like a criminal now, $100 a day:eek: spose they can't get angry if they didn't give you one though:rolleyes: )
Maybe do it on the net then all should be ok? Opps sorry just noticed you cant do it without the code:(
:banghead: I WOULD CO-OPERATE IF THEY SENT ME ONE:laughing:
hahaha yeah so true!
the woman that dropped mine off said she'd be back in about 1 week to pick it up, so i guess youd have a bit of time to sort it out.

the census police will come a take you away!
nah im sure if you ring them tomorrow when its quieter they will arrange to have one sent out to you... its their fault so i wouldnt worry.
i just did mine online and when it came to putting the form number down i couldnt even read what the bloke had written on the form... i guessed a couple of numbers :banghead: hmmm might see you in the census lockup if mine didnt work properly

I'm pretty sure you have until the 28th to complete it, but it has to be information from the night of the 8th (tonight), just keep phoning them, maybe get up and try first thing tomorrow morning, (I'm not sure when they open but if you try when most people will be either on the way to work or taking kids to school you'll have a better chance of getting through).
Don't stress, they have records of which people deliver to which areas, and you certainly won't be the only one who doesn't have one delivered yet (in your area), have you asked the neighbours if they have theirs.
I am making DH do it! He is having a great time laughing at all his witty comments!
I did mine yesterday. LOL.
Thank god the step kids aren't here tonight, then I would have had to fill out out for all 6 of us! Bleh.
aarrrgh i so cant be bothered doing census:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Me either, I think it is all a big conspiracy to get all your details & hunt you down

Just got through and apparently they had big stuff ups this year and heaps of people didn't get there forms. So no fines and we are getting one sent out:p
Question 34 - re working - does motherhood come under Yes, unpaid work in a family business?
And for language - um i dont see baby babble on there!
The language part i put the babytalk under the description in other language lol
Question's 48 and 50 more relate to the motherhood part i think:)
i just finished it, it was sooooooooooo boring argggg
Well I just finished mine. I hope you all marked down about them needing assistance. I did. I am also glad that my twins are away at the moment. 2 less people I had to fill out.

We didn't get one either. Or rather, we got ONE personal form, rather than the household one we were supposed to get. At about 4 this afternoon!
I was so looking forward to doing it too! I love surveys!

Hi all
Just a heads up -
I hope none of you did it online before today - there was a big article on news and in papers about all the people that put it in early - it occurs a significantly high fine.
Oh and so does not doing it.......
So yeah..... :shame: lol

No matter what the paper says, yoiu don't get a fine for doing it early, or they wouldn't have it set up so early!
Yes you can get fined a LOT for not doing it, and it is 100% confidential, the only thing that reads it is a big computer, and the government only gets the figures not the information from every single household so don't worry!
mumma_jessy
08-08-2006, 23:23
I know what you mean, but as long as you actually hand it to your collector, it is 100% confidential. The only thing that reads it is a big computer, then the government only gets the figures, not every single persons details!
I wouldn't worry bout it!

I love it! It's so much fun!
I know... I really have no life do I.
:D I have done mine it didnt take that long but i didnt want to do it out of lazyness
ring the hotline tommorow, give them your address and a sms will be sent to the collector to deliver a new form to you, complete with ecensus envelope. Was a yellow card left in your letterbox? You may not have been home when they called, still one should've been left for you, unless you have dogs of course.
In regards to the personal form, you are right, that is no good, you need a household form.Again, ring the census inquiry service.

Did everyone choose the option to have their answers released in 99 years?
I did...only because I'm researching my family tree at the moment and I've hit a brick wall - something like this could've really helped me.

i chose yes to the 99 year release question but i am stumped by the fact you can only choose one option for hertage on each side of your family.

Am I the only person who was EXCITED and found it FUN to fill in the census last night? :)
No way! It was our first census as a couple AND as a family so we were all "Yay!" and sat down and did it :D It was fun.
We only had one argument, what to put down for Cobey's religion. (which wasn't so much of an argument as it was me pushing my view and Chris rolling his eyes before marking "Uniting Church")
Ummm.. Yes!
I found it intrusive to be perfectly honest. :o

I like filling it out! and its such a neccesary thing. The amount of government services and initiatives that wouldnt be as appropriate as they are if we didnt have a census are huge.
Its easy to look at it as a pain, or an intrusion, but whats worse? filling in a form once every 4 years, or having a government that is clueless as to its demographic?
It isnt perfect, but its better than nothing.

I enjoyed it also so was rather excited to fill it out & excited to have Boof on the form to start him making his mark on the world !
I dont know how its intrusive to be honest its a few simple questions that are pretty much known to the government already through various forms.
Its not like they are asking what meals your prefer, whether you have a mental illness or when you last went to the toilet.
I wouldnt care about answer those mind you

IF the census did what it is supposed to do - it would be a wonderful tool
during the last census, 1000's of forms got shredded due to time constraints of processing them!!
the address of my employer bears NO relevance to any constructive data processing/results!!
the only laugh was the number of hours unpaid domestic work
ha ha ha, DP didn't appreciated the "less than 5 hours" i put next to his name
Kate:sleeping:

I also think the amount i pay on my mortgage, absolutely no one's business, unless they will be contributing towards it.

Thats what everyone did when the last census happened. We were under the impression that if 10,000 people listed it as a religion it became a legit religion. Apparently that was BS cause nothing ever came of it.
Also when they ask how much you pay on your mortgage, do they mean how much the repayments actually are or how much we are paying? We pay more than the required repayment, so I just put that figure down.

Im just annoyed that they needed to know how much rent I am paying, I really dont beleive that its any of their business:shame: :shame: :shame:
While dw and I put yes to have the information released in 99 years, we put no down for jemma as there is still a small chance that she will be alive then, and may not want it released.

haha I put DF did NO domestic work! Lucky he didnt see it or he would have challenged me! It is true he's done none in the past week tho.
My DS speaks fairly well (he's 18months) as he can word sentences but he also says things in greek and I felt silly saying he could speak english but DF was insisting I put he speaks greek too! How silly is that. I didnt end up marking the greek one because honestly who would consider my 18month old DS a 2 language speaker?!
My DH actually put down that our baby speaks "Other" in language and wrote "Goo Goo Gah Gah" !!!!
*sigh* I'm sure the census people are going to have a field day with some of the responses.....

I've seen the lady 3 times in our street, and she's not come to collect ours. I was only wondering today when the cut off was for them to be collected. I certainly don't want to be fined etc just because she's not collected ours. I might check to see if there's a number to call to let them know.

The collectors have a particular route to follow so whilst you may see them across the street, your side would be classed as a different block entirely. They have until the 28th to collect. You could ring the census enquiry hotline and ask for a mailback envelope.
