View Full Version : Maxalon - did it work for you and how long did it take?
I've started taking Maxalon today but I still feel sick all day. The only thing that stops me from feeling sick is eating - hello massive weight gain. :crying:
If it worked for you how many days did it take to 'kick in'?
TIA

Can I tell you it didn't work for me??
It gave me the runs but nausea was still there, tbh I think it helps more with vomiting... if eating makes you feel better hun, just do it and go for a long walk every night... hope you feel better soon.

I had MS from really early on and finally went to the hospital at 3am one morning because I couldn't bear it any longer. They gave me an injection of maxalon and it did nothing at all. I picked up the prescription later that day and took my first tablet and it helped a little bit but the next day after I took my second tablet I really noticed the difference. I took it until I was 16 weeks along.
So basically it took me one injection and 2 tablets over 2 days to feel better.

I had a stemetil injection in hospital, and then maxalon. I had hyperemesis for 20weeks, so had to use an alarm, and take my maxalon (technically I took pramin, the generic version) every 8 hours. if I was even 15 minutes late, I started vomiting again, so back to hospital.
maxalon was a life saver, I cried the first time I went 30minutes without vomiting, and was so glad to be able to eat/drink again. (i lost 12kg, and didn't eat or drink for 4-5 days (i couldn't remember when I'd eaten/drank water last, and was delirious) before I was hospitalised.
I also take it now, if I get reflux (and I STILL get some nausea some days at 39 weeks)

I had MS so bad I thought I was going to DIE! I didn't get off the couch for about 3 months. The only thing that helped out of ginger, herbal ms tablets, sea bands, vit B, accupuncture, only eating celery/strawberries/cucumber for weeks and zofran, was zofran.
It stopped me actually throwing up. Didn't take away all the sickness but let me live daily life.
You have to watch out though cause it makes you constipated.
I can comiserate. Hope you get some relief soon.

Maxalon just made me vomit. I hated it, even worse after I told a doctor that it made me worse, she gave me an injection of it, telling me it would was good meds and make me better! Will never touch the stuff again, only zofran works here.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but it did jack sh*t for me. Ginger beer had a better effect than maxalon.
Hang in there :hugs: I know MS is the pits....
I have to agree that maxalon made me feel sooooo much worse..
a bit of toast before i got out of bed (thank god for dp) and i was still nauseous but i didn't throw up.
i was vomiting blood in my first pg and maxalon did absolutely nothing!
i told everyone it didn't do anything but why they kept prescribing it i will never know! :)

I had the injection too, the injection was the only thing that worked and it only worked for a few hours. I had HG for the entire pregnancy and Maxalon didn't work at all for any of that time.

I used maxalon when going through chemo ( very similar to ms now I've experienced both lol;)) I used to take 6 a day (2 x 3 times a day) it didn't work as much as other drugs though.

My ms was sooo bad both times I ended up hospitalised regularly. With my second son though I managed to get on a very strict plan of tablet taking. I still felt awful but it stopped me spewing. I used to take a maxolon tablet every 5 hours (yes I used to have to set an alarm to wake me up to take it if I didn't bring back on the vomiting)
For me the maxolon isn't quite enough though and I will still vomit on it so in addition to the maxolon I took 1 zofran wafer a day. Those combined stopped the spewing. The zofran wafers are super expensive cos they aren't coverd by pbs but they work.
Thanks for the replies
I'm not actually puking, I just feel like I need to puke all day :( :crying:
I'm so sorry, lot of :hugs:
Sometimes not puking can be worse, you feel this constant urge to but you end up just being nauseous all the time.
At least after you puke (sometimes) you feel slightly better, unless its one of those instances where your just gagging and you can't stop.. :barf:

Have experiments what work for you, for me splices worked on chemo and I used it again for ms and if you are sick it's better to bring up an ice cream :)

I had weekly maxalon injections from 3 weeks, after that i could take maxalon tablets but i had to take them every 3.5 hours instead of 4.
I needed the injections to kick start things.

I hate to say it but Maxalon did nothing for me, both injections and tablets. I was never sick but had that constant nauseous feeling all day every day, and as someone said, sometimes that's worse than actually throwing up. I tried the Zofran wafers and they too didn't work. I also tried all the ginger, bands, MS lollies (aka. ginger candy) etc etc and nothing worked. I basically just had to hold out until it was over, which thankfully for me was around the 14 week mark (I feel for all those who suffer from MS longer! :hugs:). Good luck, and from experience, it will end... eventually! :hugs:
It worked for me... but didnt.
I had bad MS, all day every day feeling queasy then vomiting
started on Maxalon, it got rid of the queasy feeling - i was stoked! then with no warning vomited all over the lounge room floor. it took away all warning i was going to vomit, so i had no time to get to the toilet.
i stopped the maxalon and just put up with the queasyness, at least then i had warning when i needed to vomit!
i was also hiding my preg from work at that stage too, so couldnt just be vomiting everywhere lol

I used it from week 6 to week 9 or 10 and I would take one as soon as I started to feel sick again.
It worked pretty good for me, I could eat but I still had that strange undescribable feeling you get along with MS.

Sorry, but I am another who maxalon did nothing for.
I took it for about 2 weeks and put up with still feeling sick hoping that one day it would start working for me - but I ended up in hospital dehydrated and needing a drip. So with permission from my OB I was prescribed the zofran wafers, and honestly they are a lifesaver!
Maxalon worked for me but it didn't have to build up in my system I still felt awful but knew I wasn't going to vomit and could get on with life a bit (needed with a three year old and 18 month old). Without it I couldn't move I felt so awful.
I took one tablet every 8 hours.
I had mild nausea in the first trimester and it did its thing for me... I think it's not strong enough for those with severe nausea/ms.
I tried not to take too much of it though and focussed on alternatives like Sprite Zero (or anything fizzy) and chicken soup (mums recipe :goodvibes:)

maxolon worked awesome for me....but as long as i took it b4 the sickness kicked in so pretty much 1st thing, if i let myslef get nauseus(sp?) then its would be too little too late and id spew it back out.
but when it did work it was great :)

Nope, neither the tablets or injection worked for me, the only thing that could make me somewhat function throughout the day was Zofran.
But Zofran is about $40 per 6 wafers I think, so it was very expensive.
