hey, DS is 4 months old and we know we have always wanted at least 2. problem is, when DS was born i almost died. i haemmoraged and hadmajor complications after his birth. he is worth everything i went through to have him, but im terrified it would happen again. does anyone know the chances of haemmoraging a second time and coming close to death again. i was so close to it i actually thought i was dead and then i woke up. im so scared i dont know if we should go for another. but i know i would always be wanting for another especially considering my eldest sis is preg with no.4 and my other sis has 2. we wouldnt be trying until after feb next year when we get married. any support or advice would be great.
thanks in advance,
jess

One of my friends who had 5 children...haemmoraged for 3 of her births...she was ok...it was a risk...the doctors were more prepared after the first and so could handle the situation more effectively but it is always a risk...it might be best to talk to your obstetrician or midwife and see what they think.
It is such a personal decision but here is my experience
My first DS i haemorraged badly and my DS was very ill when he was born too
Second DS i only had a small bleed as they were prepared for it and gave me a shot of something... and my DS was perfecty healthy :)
You have a while before you decide, so spend alot of time thinking about it, but in the end just go with your heart
Good luck

i didnt haemorrage with my first but i did with my second so i had to have an emergency c section this time round with my third it is planned that i will have a c section it was my choice but i feel this to be a safer option and that i will have it two wks early as both my boys were between 3 and 2 wks early. Goodluck

i think it depends on what caused the heammorage in the first place. mine was caused by an oversize placenta that the obs couldn't remove properly. i would have to have a c-sec for my next child because that kind of thing is a commonly recurring problem.
all the details of your labour should be available form the obs who was present. if the next obs is aware of any complications from the first birth, then they can generally keep an eye on it and make it less risky the second time.
get a professional opinion on this one. it'll help you make a much more informed choice. and feel safer if you do decide to go ahead.

was caused by unusually large placenta and a large baby. my uterus slacked off and forgot to contract once bubs came out so all the blood vessels stayed open. they had to give me syntocin to make it contract back down as fast as possible, quite painful. i would have a guess they would probly offer me a c-section as i am likely to have another big bub and im sure im probly at risk of another large placenta by the sounds of what you said cjb.
thanx everyone.

i'd talk to a specialist first , and give your body alot of time to heal in between;)

I agree, it is such a personal decision and a hard one to make..... My partner and I are in the same position....I personally am to scared from what I went through, I hemmoraged but mine was due to severe tearing....so......bit of a different situation..but still scary.
I think it depends on at the time, how you've healed emotionally, and what doctors advise was after 6 week checkup after bub was born, and new advise they have for you....and how you feel within yourself, I believe that when the time come you will know where it is right for you....
Goodluck :)
I had an emergency C/section to and also heamorraged I nearly lost my life I woke to the head surgeon stroking my head telling me I was a very lucky young lady to still be here...And after 8 weeks he and the head of Obs told me I could start when I wanted so we have start TTC I am not scared it will happen again I will be monitored and much more aware of things. You really need to talk to the hospital talk to as many DR's as you want/need to it could happen again but try not to think like that think of the positives we were scared to try for another but I don't want to live in fear I hope you don't either.
